Love seeing so many comics folks here that are going to be at @awesomecon.bsky.social!

Sweet! We love 80s movies.
I’m definitely stopping by!
Describe your plot in five words or less - if you dare.
Defending Press Freedom. Punching Nazis.
The output of this man is crazy! It reminds me of the stories you’d hear about the pulp writers of the 40s and 50s that could push out dozens of books a year.
Oh yea…cold marina dipping sauce tells me you don’t care.
Tech Oligarchy & The Death of Journalism? I am all in!
The first issue of EXPLOIT (EXPL0IT ?) is soooo good!
Yinz definitely need to pick it up. Well done @madcavestudios.com, @timleong.bsky.social & @laurahudson.bsky.social!
It’s no surprise that the guy who revived Johnny Dollar LOVES @christophcondon.bsky.social & @thatjacobphillips.bsky.social’s The Peril of the Brutal Dark.
Brilliant pulp noir detective story!
But, I swear Chris is trying to singlehandedly keep the “fake news headline” industry in business 😂😂😂.
Hey Small Press publishers!
The @smallpressexpo.bsky.social lottery has officially opened! This is one of our favorite events to attend (sadly, we have yet to hit on the lottery, but fingers crossed 🤞).
We meet so many great creators there every year, and it really is a celebration of comics!
Love this! @joshblaylock.bsky.social created a comic for the @katmabu.bsky.social campaign.
Love the idea of using comics in campaigns AND I love the fact that the campaign is using a real comic artist to make a real comic.
Ordered my copy an can’t wait to review.
Another great episode, really enjoyed the discussion around the value of comics courses.
Well done @jesterdiablo.bsky.social, @vanguardcomic.bsky.social & Tony!
I think your link got truncated, it sent me to a 404 page (found the project anyway and signed up for notifications).
This is a great list. One more to add:
Leslie Charteris really came to despise his first Simon Templar (The Saint) book, Meet the Tiger.
He was quoted as saying:
“I can see so much wrong with it that I am humbly astonished that it got published at all”
Well, we’re all glad it did.
You are not going to want to miss this when it goes live. There will be variant covers and other rewards that will only be available through Kickstarter.
Sign up to be notified when we go live mid-March.
If you love gritty detective stories & the feel of the Harlem Renaissance you will love this!
We reached out to @davidmariotte.bsky.social to write the script and we an amazing line up of cover artists including one of our favorite, @smartinbrough.bsky.social who created this cover.
🧵 I am excited to tell you all about our next @kickstarter.com!
Rudolph Fisher's The Conjure-Man Dies is a seminal Harlem Renaissance work. It's the first detective novel written by a black author featuring a black detective and all African-American characters.
Some early art from Darren Soto:
That is really cool! I love it.
Are you attending @awesomecon.bsky.social?
Do you want to learn more about crowdfunding?
I’m giving a talk Saturday Night:
Navigating the Crowdfunding Maze in 2026.
Come listen to how we’ve managed to successfully fund 13 comics campaigns.
And bring your questions!
Happy Friday! I am extremely excited to announce that @weyodi.bsky.social is nominated for a Zelda Award for her work on The Clock!
I know a lot of people say awards don't matter, but as a small publisher making niche comics, awards help us get attention. Plus Weyodi rocks!
Vote for her here!
Some excellent advice from @vanguardcomic.bsky.social on making a comic!
That made it a lot less subtle, but I was picking up on some of the more subtle bits that seemed familiar before hand, especially the opening monologue.
Hmmm… @madcavestudios.com out there trying hide a little Moby Dick in their dystopian sci-fi comic books! I WILL not stand for that 😂😂😂!
If my Freshman English teacher couldn’t make me read Moby Dick, I’m not gonna let a comic book company do it 😂.
Also, coincidentally, I just released my video on Kickstarter scam targeting creators.
It’s not just you, there are more scammers and they are more brazen AND they love to hit creators!
This week’s @comiclab.bsky.social discussion about a Kickstarter scams is really good and @davekellett.bsky.social’s Kickstarter, Double Dog Dare, looks great! I backed it!
Great news! You can sign up on the pre-launch page for The Conjure Man Dies! An adaptation of the first African-American detective story by Rudolph Fisher from me, Darren Soto, and @greenarcher.io! Revealed cover by @smartinbrough.bsky.social & @sotocolor.bsky.social! Don't miss out!
A cover to The Conjure Man Dies by Shawn Martinbrough (lines) and Chris Sotomayor (colors). It depicts a corpse sitting in a chair, his head loosely covered by a dirty cloth. Blood pools by the base of his chair. He's got a stuffed bookshelf, a framed picture, and an apartment that looks out to watertowers. He's being examined, not by a detective exactly, but by Dr. John Archer, a medical doctor and one of the co-leads in this mystery. Coming soon to Kickstarter from Green Archer Comics!
Very cool to see @smartinbrough.bsky.social & @sotocolor.bsky.social's cover to "The Conjure Man Dies", an upcoming comic adaptation of the classic detective story by me and Darren Soto for @greenarcher.io! Keep an eye out for much more on this soon as we get ready to launch on KS!
You are welcome! I couldn’t find a great video of her performance. But here is a “not great” one 😂
