Ah! I have been wanting to buy this! I helped a tiny little phenology project called "The Lucy Tree."
Public comment period closes March 6. Please take 15 minutes to speak out against this.

Lunar Eclipse, coming to a sky near you. (at approx 4:30am)

Some days, the process of creating an online account to publicly comment on items feels overwhelming. You can create the account one day, and make your comments the next. That's how I spoke out against unregulated mass satellite deployments.

This takes a bit of doing (15 minutes), but isn't preserving our night sky worth at least that much? Satellites have their place, but we don't think large scale deployments should be exempt from environmental review.
This FCC comment period closes soon. (March 6)

Oenothera caespitosa blooming at night. (Tufted Primrose)
Four last night!
“What have we gained in going to space if, in the process, we have cut off all of humanity from the night sky?”

The crazy disconnect between the experience of photographing Antelope Canyon (in my case, I joined an absolute crush of frenzied photographers) and the photos themselves, is just wild.
Amazing place.
I am a ROCK STAR inside my motorcycle helmet. :-D

3/3 (oops!)
Finally, a reminder on how we all can protect our natural night skies.

Morning Oenothera caespitosa blooms, before they wilt.
2/2 These three will wilt when the sun hits them, but a fresh batch awaits nightfall.
Their striking size (4" across!), bright white color, and rich fragrance attract their moth pollinators.
Protect night-blooming plants such as these by protecting their pollinators.
Tufted Primrose (Oenothera caespitosa) blooming at night.
1/2 These beauties (Oenothera caespitosa, aka "Tufted Primrose") have been greeting me every evening when I get home from work. Night blooming flowers need night-going pollinators (Sphinx moths, in this case). And you know what night-going pollinators need? Natural night skies.
Our own Sam Miller was recently featured on "Arizona Spotlight." Enjoy the whole episode, or find the DarkSky portion starting at 7:47. Bravo, Sam!

Me? Getting to know the Huachucas while spring seeking during the long stretch of pandemic unemployment. What a gift.
100% My favorite birding experience is to watch “my” yard birds over the long term. You really get to know them!
I’ve been to the EU numerous times, yet they continue to elude me!
I have always wanted to see a European Robin!
Gorgeous!

I DID miss it!
What a portrait!! *swoon*
You bet it is!!

Lookie! Another star party at our nearby International Dark Sky Park, Oracle State Park. (The lights of Tucson are conveniently tucked behind the Catalina Mountains.)
This Saturday is another chance to see celestial sights via the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association telescopes.

I dig the sneaky little warblers. I have to say, I still end up using old fashioned back-button most of the time.
