Semi gloss paint seems to do decently well! Is it a perfect match to the old stuff? No, but I think once I re-oil the main body and burnish it will be close enough. And I gave the most obvious parts a touchup (except the table since that's huge). Plus it's my toy and whateva
It is downright unfair how delicious lamb is with cumin
It is also a travesty that somehow lamb consumption is inversely correlated with income
always somewhat amused to see phishing emails coming from "my hosting provider" which is... me. I'm obviously sending threatening admin emails in my sleep again.
ok sure, but we're "dealing" with those too
i don't need it to melt, it's well on its way. I just get confused that I'm wearing a t-shirt outside and yet snow IS RIGHT THERE
A pile of snow on dirt
My brain is having trouble processing that it is about 70f outside and I'm standing next to a giant pile of snow
derp jjust remembered that i ordered a bag of shellac flakes to prep as the final seal coat on the sewing machine after i paint it... but forgot i need to buy denatured alcohol to dissolve it
Four spring rolls frying in a flat bottomed wok on a cooktop next to a plate of golden yellow fried spring rolls
Nowadays when I deep fry stuff I pull out the wok because oil pools in the bottom and I don't have to use nearly as much oil to get the depth I need
I'm far from a great woodworker but I at least know enough to slap a rectangle together with pocket screws and some chiseling
A few more rough points to scribe and chip down but the stand fits!!
How many arteries can a foot possibly have ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
This is what happens when you just need to chisel out a few small cutouts and you don't have a woodworking bench and vise available... So fuck it
This morning was pretty weird. Since the temperature rocketed up into the 50s and there's still giant piles of snow around and it's been rainy, there was low fog only above large patches of snow and clear otherwise
It's fake spring in nyc
Guys we're upgrading from a machine cleaning station to a woodworking station
I get tinnitus once in a while for just a few brief seconds and I'm so sorry ๐ญ
Screenshot of phone audio tool app showing a sound distribution with a clear spike above ambient noise at slightly about 8khz. The overall sound level is 29db(A) spl
Omg the noise is real, I took my calibrated mic and app to the place where I could hear the noise and there is clearly a single spike of noise at a frequency slightly north of 8khz... It's not a lot of dba but it's clearly above the dead silent ambient of like 30dba in the room
for $16 I got a 3.5in x 6ft piece of poplar and now I just have to do the messy measurements to make a proper base for the sewing machine... also I get to use the pocket hole jig I bought like 8 mo ago thinking I'd have time to make some cabinets but life got in the way
yah. I recently got an xgimi mogo 2 projector for the bedroom, it's fine when we use it, but when it's off and in standby, in certain narrow angles in the room from it, I hear a faint tone that I thought i was imagining. immediately stopped when i unplugged the usb power.
my wife has learned to just accept it when I flinch at those godawful high frequency "keep teens from loitering" devices... also a family we know has high pitched "keep rabbits away from the house" thing that doesn't work on rabbits but do on me and i'm >40 and it's really sad =(
... know how you're supposed to lose hearing as you get older? when the hell am I supposed to stop hearing the buzzing/beeping of cheap switching power supplies in certain electronics? at the least i want to stop hearing that ><
tbh booze is a very expensive way to have fun... plus the calories are.... a lot <_<; so it's probably for the best
you're either drinking too much, or not enough. gotta look into fixing that
like, on a per-inch basis mcmaster is cheaper. but wtf am I gonna do with 46 extra steel pins in a weird short length
apparently the modular fiddle project I want to build for fun needs 1/16" diameter, 1.25" long steel pins for the geared tuning system and it's a weird enough size I either order it from mcmaster for $10 for 50 (+10 shipping) ... or I buy 1/16 x 24" drill rod for $9 and cut myself
Sadly the decals on this is one is effectively a total loss so I'm gonna replace them with a new set and then shellac over them
Vintage necchi BU sewing machine on a table sitting in a sheet of aluminum foil with dirty cotton balls, cups and other cleaning tools scattered around it. The paint work is black and dirty while all the chrome parts gleam brightly
I need to do a very thorough cleaning of the black painted parts but after a deep cleaning of all the silver parts.. it's so shiny ๐
also, yay the replacement foot pedal came in for the sewing machine today, and double yay, the motor (a replacement one from taiwan added probably decades ago?) works! so once I get everything cleaned up I can probably USE the machine for something
I'd wager that at least in part it's an in-group/out-group signaling thing where "hey I know the WORD for this thing so I'm in the special in-group"
