Andβ¦ yesβ¦ thereβs a second raven in the pic.
One of a dozen ravens seen above a quiet Chilterns valley yesterday. They circled above me emitting bass cronks, while, at the other end of my frequency range, a gang of goldcrests sent thin calls from the heart of a yew. ππΏ #nature
After a few virus-inflicted βoff-gamesβ weeks, it was good to be back out for a slither along some squelchy Oxfordshire Way miles. πΆπ»π₯³
Indeed! It was to be seen in Cambridgeβs Fitzwilliam Museum last summer - a great exhibition on Olympics and art - focusing on the Paris 1924 games.
Painted by Irelandβs first Olympic medallist, as I suspect @wildtwin.bsky.social knows.
What a striking contrast in habitat management methods: 1/4 βtake no prisonersβ contractors in much-loved local woodland; 2/4 & 3/4 carefully targeted scrub-bashing and lopping by @savebutterflies.bsky.social volunteers to help wild strawberry growth and boost grizzled skipper prospects (4/4). π¦π

60 years on from its closure, Iβm walking a stretch of the Hull >Withernsea line. Iβm told I travelled this way, in the pram phase. Childlike excitement today at the masses of fieldfares and redwings, the skeins of geese overhead. But most of all when I heard and spotted the shape of a hawfinch. π€©
It flows through Cartmel - in Cumbria nowadays, Lancashire in pre-1974 terms. π
π€¦ββοΈ Failed to add #naturewriting to my reply. Now remediedβ¦ and allowing me to say thanks for todayβs GCD. Great to meet the River Hiz, though the River Eea remains my favourite 3-letter waterway. π
Thanks for the nudge to head into this space, Nic. Looking forward to uplifting, inspiring and informative content from friends old and new. Hereβs some pics from last week in southern Turkey to start my contribution. π¦πΈπΏ
