Today in Pacific Rim some grade 3’s looked at the concept of multiplication. We looked for groups of and rows of related it to skip counting and repeated addition. @nctm.org @bcamt.bsky.social

This year, I joined NCSS (social studies) as part of my registration for their national conference. (I presented about slow reveal graphs!) Today, their journal arrived.

With CBC now having called all ridings it's time for the land-vs-people-vote animation.
Can you solve the puzzle? What goes in each blank of the area model? A 2 row by 3 column array is shown. To the left of the array, a 2x is shown in row 1 and a 3 is shown in row 2. A 10x^3 is shown in the 1st row, 1st column cell. The rest of the cells and the 3 spaces above the first row all have question marks. Four problems about the height of two stacks of congruent rectangles.
Four problems about diagrams made up of congruent rectangles drawn on a coordinate grid.
Three problems that can be represented by simultaneous equations: one about the length of two strings of square and circular beads, one about the weight of a bucket containing different amounts of water, and one about the value of a given number of coins.
Applications of simultaneous equations might be my favourite topic. There are just so many fun problem types! We did these Don Steward beauties in Y10 #MathsToday.
