Home security systems are safety theater. They make us feel like weโ€™re in control, but they donโ€™t actually reduce the risk of violence.

If anything, theyโ€™re a part of a broader, predatory industry that exploits our fears and *increases* the risk of violence to keep us spending money.

That really captures the essence of MAGA: A movement at war with the reality of American life and a large portion of the population.
ย
And it also points to one of the regimeโ€™s key weaknesses: They have fully bought into their own white nationalist propaganda.

Cover art for Discover Calculus. The background shows a plane flying over water in an arc. Reflected in the water is the plane and its arc but also diverging curves, rippling in the water. In the background is a bridge and some lights. The sky is dark with shining stars, a crescent moon, and beautiful clouds. The whole picture is a warm grey/brown with black hatch shading and white highlights.

It's here! @acidlich.bsky.social created this beautiful cover art, perfect as a representation of the book. While students will mostly be interacting with the book digitally, I'm very excited for the printed copies that we'll be making to give to students as well!

Today is MAR 10, aka Mario day. It is also extremely close to the spring equinox.

This implies a cycle of Wario Day (fall equinox), Luigi Day (summer solstice), and Waluigi Day (winter solstice).

"Ultra-processed" is for MAHA what "woke" is for MAGA.

The emptiness of the signifier is a feature for them, not a bug

10.03.2026 14:24 ๐Ÿ‘ 9 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is the heart of the problem. "Ultra-processed" foods are considered unhealthy due to their chemical additives or their calorie density but neither of those have anything to do with "processing"!

This is just the word people use to talk about foods they don't like. Scientists should do better.

Homer Simpson walks out of The Frying Dutchman's all-you-can-eat seafood bar carrying a hotel steam tray piled high with shrimp, and a limp-looking whole fish in his mouth. A cook chases after him trying to get his attention, shouting "Please don't take the steam tray. Sir!"
