It’s a great book. I remember especially the section where she shows how technology not only increased women’s labour, but removed men from the shared tasks entirely.

Bravo! 👏
Two trumpets, a mandolin, a toaster and a gazillion earbuds. Strangely haunting photos of objects left on public transport.

Should have told them it was a ‘How To’. They’d all have shown up.
Also, American ideas of tax are so skewed. In many/most countries healthcare, tuition etc all are paid for out of taxes. If you add that to what the average American pays, it’d be clear that Americans pay huge taxes, they just do it in chunks.
If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice

Who among us has not been there. Who. Among. Us.
It's delightful, thank you for posting! (And glad you got those chips!)
Today’s TL joy.
I didn't know that, thank you.
(And 'let' as hinder is pretty much obsolete, only visible in 'let or hindrance' in law', or a net shot in tennis.)
'let' means both allow, and hinder.
Also, 'cleave' means rend asunder and stick together.
Well exactly!
I spent the whole evening trying to remember when I was last there...
Count your blessings. I just got a message that my local library is closed for the foreseeable future because of an infestation of -- eek! -- bedbugs.
And 'ruthless' is indeed the oppostie of 'ruth', full of compassion: 'Look homeward, Angel, now, and melt with ruth.'

It's stunning how ignorant the DOGE bros were who were sent into agencies. Justin Fox cannot even articulate in his own words what his "present understanding of DEI" is: he can't even formulate a coherent sentence about it. I wouldn't hire him for basic tech support. #NEH

More than a little revolted to discover @dauntbooks.bsky.social Cheapside is displaying as a featured title a book by Epstein-friend Peter Attia. This is, let us not forget, the man who sent emails post-child-sex-trafficking convction telling Epstein how much he missed him. Really classy, Daunts.
Right? I mean, why they didn't think of turkey-net to begin with will remain one of life's great mysteries.
Ah, the colonies!
👏👏👏
As a child I misread tourniquet and was entirely convinced it was pronounced turkey-net.
*small voice* I still think turkey-net sounds better.
As the UK tax year rolls to a close, a public service announcement as to why the UK (alone, afaik) does not have a Jan-Dec tax year.
(Not stated below, Lady Day, 25 March, was new year's day for much of the previous era. Diaries from that date are today often reprinted w, eg, 1664/5 for 1Jan-24Mar)
Oh hurrah, I'm so glad it's been done!
Following this, now you need to do a thread on why the UK tax year runs from 5 April.
When he first surfaced, it seemed that perhaps Poilievre was a clever man playing stupid for his fan base. Ever since Trudeau resigned, it’s been abundantly clear that Poilievre is in fact staggeringly stupid. Moribund in petty grievance and victimhood.
I think that ‘human-rights obsessed’ comes from their deep-seated racism: they genuinely don’t believe that everyone deserves the same treatment, and equally genuinely don’t believe that we don’t all secretly believe the same.
The racism that permeates everything: ‘human-rights obsessed’ is an insult only to people who believe all people are not equal. And are incapable of believing that everybody doesn’t think the same.
I just assume every man who did well at Pixar during Lasseter's tenure is a weenie. And the fact that (as far as I'm aware) none of them have even attempted to publicly reckon with what went on there or the fact that if they'd been women they wouldn't have their careers just bolsters my assumption.
