(Cont) The โn-wordโ in particular, likely originated from the Latin word niger(meaning "black").While initially a descriptive term, it quickly became a derogatory epithet during the slave trade, synonymous with inferiority. Nothing about the use of the n-word was ever okay, nor will it ever be.

Quote: It is my observation that the problem lies with the exercised comfort individuals have with the humiliation and degradation of me and every other Black member of our community. For context, slurs have been used as psychological weapons to demean, dehumanize, and enforce a racial hierarchy.

I was proud to represent PWC for years, VA's most diverse county. This community deserves leadership whose respect for everyone, regardless of race or creed, is unquestioned. Sef Casim has yet to fully explain his remarks and unconditionally apologize. www.princewilliamtimes.com/localnews/de...

And it's not the past posts alone. It's the offline response to being called in. It's the response to constituents asking clarification about his residence, which was under question in the last election he was in too. In this 2026, this lack of unlearning is inexcusable.

๐จ MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN WOODBRIDGE DISTRICT SPECIAL ELECTION โ Prince William County Democrats are turning up the heat on their own nominee.
As of March 2, 2026, a significant coalition of elected Democratic officials has publicly called for Muhammed โSefโ Casim to immediately step down as the Democratic candidate for the Woodbridge District seat on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. This comes amid escalating controversy over resurfaced social media posts from 2012โ2015 that allegedly contain racial slurs, antisemitic rhetoric, misogynistic language, xenophobic elements, and other deeply divisive content.
The joint statement, released March 2 and led by former Woodbridge Supervisor Delegate Margaret Franklin (HD-23)
@MargaretforVA
, declares the remarks โnot merely unacceptable โ they are disqualifying.โ It states: โAs elected leaders representing one of the most diverse counties in the Commonwealth of Virginia, we stand firmly against racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic language in any form. The remarks made online by Sufiyan โSefโ Casim are not merely unacceptable โ they are disqualifying.โ
The signers emphasize: โHis use of deeply derogatory language that has caused immeasurable pain and harm to African Americans throughout this nationโs history reflects a fundamental failure of character and judgment that cannot be overlooked. Mr. Casim has demonstrated that he does not grasp the weight and history of the words he chose to use. That is not a standard we will accept from anyone seeking to represent the people of Prince William County.โ
They directly call on Casim to withdraw: โWe are therefore calling on him to immediately step down as a candidate for the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. The Woodbridge community deserves a leader who is fully committed to their wellbeing โ someone who will fight to lower costs, address the real needs of residents, and bring people together rather than cause harm. Stepping down is the right thing toโฆ
The statement concludes: โIn the event Mr. Casim does not step down, we, the undersigned signers of this statement, do not support his candidacy.โ
Signatories include a broad cross-section of Democratic leaders with strong ties to Prince William and Northern Virginia:
- Delegate Margaret Franklin, HD-23
- Delegate Luke Torian, HD-24
@DelegateTorian
- Senator Jennifer Carroll Foy, SD-33
@JCarrollFoy
- Senator Jeremy McPike, SD-29
@JeremyMcPike
- Delegate Rozia Henson, HD-19
@Henson4Virginia
- Delegate Michelle Maldonado, HD-20
@MichelleforVA
- Vice Chair, Supervisor Victor Angry
- Supervisor Andrea Bailey
- Selonia Miles, Council Member, Town of Dumfries
- Monae Nickerson, Vice Mayor, Town of Dumfries
- School Board Members: Richard Jesse, Lisa Zargararpur, Justin Wilk, Tracey Blake, and Loree Williams
This group represents a powerful intra-party rebuke in a district known for its cultural diversity, where issues of trust and inclusive leadership directly impact Board decisions on data centers, housing affordability, public safety, transportation, and economic development.
Adding to the pressure, Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chair Deshundra Jefferson
@DeshundraTweets
issued her own pointed statement on March 2: โI am deeply disgusted by the past comments Sufiyan Casim made โ as well as his lack of responsibility and accountability. No apology should start with the words, 'Nobodyโs history is perfect and I am no exception,' as it dismisses the pain that oneโs words have caused.โ
Jefferson continued: โSufiyan needs to meet with leaders in the communities he has offended. He needs to initiate an open dialogue and answer to voters. Thatโs the only way that trust can be rebuilt. Words matter โ especially from those seeking public office. Words shape public discourse. Words influence policy priorities. Words signal whose voices are valued and whose are dismissed. Rhetoric that stereotypes, marginalizes, or demeans has no place in our politiโฆ
She also addressed perceived hypocrisy in outrage over racism: โThis is exactly what the Prince William County Republican Committee is doing. Many of those who appear to be outraged over Sufiyanโs comments remained silent or made excuses when Brian Landrum disparaged me by using the term 'DEI Deshundra.' Those same people routinely ignore Trumpโs overt racism... So why does racism matter now? Because they want to win an election.โ
This situation is unfortunate and completely unfair to Woodbridge residents, who deserve a Supervisor who would prioritize their needs and understand the diverse community they serve.
The story broke with our coverage after Prince William County Republican Committee Chairman Jacob Alderman released a statement February 27 highlighting screenshots of alleged posts, including repeated use of the n-word (e.g., โthis n***a landed a sweet jobโ), derogatory terms toward women, comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany, claims of U.S.-funded โgenocide,โ and #FreePalestine content paired with conflict imagery.
Alderman called the content โvile, indefensible, and completely disqualifyingโ for representing a culturally diverse community and accused Democratic leaders of complicity through silence.
Casim responded with a public Facebook apology: โNobodyโs history is perfect and I am no exception. 14 years ago I had made social media posts that were disrespectful and posted a reference to my friend using a term that is quite frankly, offensive to the Black community.
There is no excuse for this and I deeply apologize. I want to make clear that the foolishness of my actions during my college days did not translate then, and most definitely does not indicate now, any prejudice or hatred I hold towards the Black community. My focus today is to ensure that every voice is heard and no resident is left out of the opportunities and access to fulfill their dreams.โ
Additional screenshots surfaced afterward showing more alleged uses of racist language, incโฆ
Supervisor Andrea Bailey (D-Potomac)
@AndreaBaileyVA
had earlier posted on X: โWe are all called to stand up and speak out against racism and misogyny, regardless of party. If we are going to call out and hold Donald Trump accountable, we MUST also call out the remarks of โSefโ Casim. I love my party and my county, but his remarks are UNACCEPTABLE.โ
The election context: Early voting for the March 10, 2026, special election is already underway. The winner will fill the Woodbridge seat vacated when Margaret Franklin won her House of Delegates race in December 2025. Casim narrowly won the Democratic firehouse primary on February 7 over Pamela G. Montgomery (291โ258).
Montgomery raised alarms about potential non-resident voting, invalidated ballots (31 noted), address discrepancies (including Casim's own), procedural lapses, inadequate training, and ballot handling issues, calling it a โsystemic breakdownโ and urging both candidates be advanced to the ballot or a fraud probe launched.
The Prince William Democratic Committee certified Casim on February 9 and has issued no public comment on the primary claims, social media controversy, or latest calls for withdrawal.
Republican nominee Jeannie LaCroix, a longtime Woodbridge resident and business owner, continues her campaign focused on responsible leadership, respect for every resident, safer streets, better schools, and economic opportunity without division.
Casim's older X account (
@SufiyanCasim
) is protected; his public account (
@SefCasim
) promotes early voting and local issues. All allegations rest on provided screenshots, public statements, and partisan claims; full independent verification of post authenticity, original context, timing of deletions/protection changes, and primary irregularity details remains limited and ongoing.
Woodbridge โ one of Prince William County's most diverse areas east of I-95, including Route 1 and Belmont Bay, and surrounding communities โ now faces a highly charged specโฆ
What a fiasco - pretty much every PW Dem is calling on the Dem nominee for Woodbridge District to step aside over alleged social media posts containing "racial slurs, antisemitic rhetoric, misogynistic language, xenophobic elements" etc. bluevirginia.us/2026/03/mond... h/t @PotomacLocal

Demoralized Democrats Have a Road Map for Success in Trumpโs America. It Was Written by Jesse Jackson.
Jesse Jackson first ran for president during the national farm bust of the early 1980s. Debt for farmers had exploded from $85 billion in 1976 to $216 ...
"In his...'Keep Hope Alive' speech, Jackson provided a model for a Democratic politics...that takes identity and class seriously, that understands their relationship and interplay, that appeals to common identities and forges responsive solutions."

i think jesse jackson was one of the most important american political figures of the post-war era and i think that his 1984 and 1988 campaigns for the democratic nomination still have a great deal to teach about forging a path to a more egalitarian world. RIP.

Local law enforcement needs to immediately investigate and hold those responsible accountable.
There must be massive nationwide resistance to this lawlessness.
