Arcanafauna are people, they just don't build houses act like humans. Why would a unicorn need to? Biscuit the unicorn and Lapis the beetle are just as much characters as humans.

There are 'mundane' animals, meaning they're not arcane, like cats, dogs, and an octopus.

It's a lot tougher than just the fish are gone. The few people who can't leave yet are relying on outside supplies for the most part.

He mistakes an undead elementalist inhabiting an automaton for a burning structure and passion flies are attracted to burning ruins. They grow plants--botanical being an arcana humans can't usually get.
