Having a hard time. Dissgreeing here. The damage to Goddard Space Flight center, where i spent seven years working on Hubble, was compliance in advance. It need not have happened, and the damage it has done will be generational.

I would LOVE to write a regular sci of scifi column. I did for Blastr for a while, but I don't know of any good venues for that anymore.

We don't talk enough about the risks of geomagnetic storms.

Earlier this year, an Aussie power company said that some of their network might have been knocked out by the Jan solar storm.

So I chatted to our leading space weather scientists about the origin and risk mitigation of these events.

Trump's assholery has killed a wonderful advanced X-ray astronomical mission that has been in development for almost a decade.

Two fuzzy galaxies, one elongated and flat and the other a smaller face-on spiral. They bear a striking resemblance to a famous starship.

What a cool paper! And the image of Arp 123 really struck me; it is VERY similar (tho much bigger and flipped L/R) to an old STIS image I found that I call the Enterprise galaxies.

The odds of a repeated digit in a string of 6 is pretty high. Two in a row is lower of course. I find myself grouping them into 2 sets of 3 numbers, and the rythm of them is easy to remember.

Yeah I just looked around and this seems to be true. I'm not surprised, given that there are even Republicans running as Dems for elections clearly to fool voters. There is no bottom.

I don't know the exact plan, but as a survey observatory they may make all the observations available to astronomers. And it's a solid bet they'll release cool images every now and again too.

Looks like the asteroid 2024 YR4 won’t impact the moon, plus Rubin Observatory sends out its first cosmic alerts... 800,000 of them! Supernovae, asteroids, and more: That’s a lot of alerts.

Looks like the moon is safe from a 2032 asteroid impact β€”Β unfortunately, kinda β€”Β and if you want to keep up with the changing sky, the Rubin Observatory will be happy to alert you millions of times per day.
