Holy crap. It's a pantheon of anti-science assholes.
This is a really fun and informative podcast and all y'all should listen to it! I do. In fact I'm listening to episodes today as I clean the house. :)
I thought my number was 5, but I still have a decent Bacon-Erdos-Black Sabbath number.
It's fake. Someone took close-up Cassini spacecraft images and worked backwards to make them look like they were taken from Earth. My advice: Block people who claim it's real and move on!
He could communicate, it just took a longer time.
Yup. I looked for individual rocks at the highest point in the arc, but counted in my head so I may be off.
I wrote this when the movie came out which was long ago; I see the world very differently now and I didn't reread the whole thing just now, so caveat lector.

I remember those days well. What a mess. Hoagland and I... are not friends.
I rewatched it a few years ago in a "what the hell" mood, and it turns out my opinion on it hasn't changed.
At the time I was in the middle of still debunking Face on Mars nonsense so maybe my mood wasnt great when I got to the latter part of the flick, and the weird ending (and bad physics) didn't help.
This is one of the few movies that actually made me angry
Some even went out of their way to defend Epstein. Nasty business.
BTW this has been on the front page of NPR all day.
Sigh. More about scientists and Epstein (starring some familiar names).
Of course, just knowing JE or attending a conference he sponsored isn't necessarily an indictation of participation in his less ethical activities. OTOH a lot of people turned a blind eye to them.

By my eye it takes about 8 seconds for material to fall from the top of the arc, making these fountains roughly 300 meters high. 300! The power here is immense.

Twin fountains! Spectacular.
Ariel is fantastic, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing this.
It's looking increasingly like these guys thought that if they could wreak more death and destruction than the other side then they would be respected as strong powerful men and they would "win" and that would make them big important heroes. Very possibly they had no rationale deeper than that.

US watching a movie where a vigilanteβs entire family is wiped out: βOh yeah, time for fucking vengeance, this dude will never stop. Get them!β
US watching Iran pick a Supreme Leader who just had his entire family wiped out: βThis guy is plainly going to be reasonable and fold.β
Chaos machines. Incredible how often they got out of their pen. Not a brain cell between them, yet amazingly clever.
Mostly it's people who don't understand not everything is for them
Yikes! I hope she gets better.
Also, aren't goats fun? They actually kinda are, but also neverending aggravation.
That would be a happy birthday indeed. In case it doesn't do your best to enjoy the day.
Today, I was out for a minute and saw this little art installation on a telephone pole. It was weathered quite a bit; it's been here for awhile. And it was beautiful to me.
I *love* science fiction, and I blocked this company on my media feeds a while back. They are just awful, and this job ad lays that bare.
Even as a cynical scholar of rape culture, I'm shocked that this isn't the headline story on domestic politics everywhere right now. It's just an unfathomable abuse of power, in clear violation of the law.

That's ridiculous.
