Saving Our Stories: Inside the Carnegie Library’s Recollection Studio The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is offering guests a unique experience: the chance to recollect memories they may have long forgotten. In the library’s do-it-yourself digitization lab, dubbed the Recollection Studio, everything from 8mm film and CDs to VHS and cassette tapes can be digitized and protected from the passage of time. Emily Kubincanek, digital community collections specialist at the library’s Main branch, said the space allows guests to uncover memories they may not have been able to access otherwise.

Old tapes. Lost voices. Forgotten moments. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Recollection Studio helps digitize old tapes, photos, & film preserving memories that might be lost. It’s also helping QBurgh expand the archives of Pittsburgh LGBTQ history.

Slay Weekly March 9, 2026 Listen on Spotify Happy Monday, besties. Daylight Saving Time rolled in this weekend and said, “Congratulations, it’s spring now. Also, we’re stealing an hour of your life.” We lost an hour of sleep. We lost an hour of afters. Somewhere in Pittsburgh, a vibe was just getting into its groove when the clock said, “Actually, it’s 3 a.m. now. Go home.” A crime.

Daylight Saving stole an hour of sleep (and an hour of afters) but the gays persist. This week’s Slay Weekly celebrates PFLAG Pittsburgh, previews a chaotic drag rivalry heading to a national stage, and rounds up queer happenings across the city.

We need brave institutions to support transgender youth in Pittsburgh This article first appeared on Pittsburgh’s Public Source. There are no medical providers in Pittsburgh openly offering gender-affirming care to individuals under 19, in a shift since President Donald Trump directed federal agencies to withhold funding early last year. Legal advocates argue the underlying executive order is unlawful and discriminatory, yet many institutions have preemptively complied. This compliance overrides the autonomy of parents and keeps healthcare providers from following best practices.

In the face of authoritarian crackdowns on gender-affirming care for transgender youth, we need bravery more than ever.

It means amplifying LGBTQ+-owned small businesses as economic anchors, archiving our history before it disappears, and paying queer writers, photographers, and creatives fairly for their labor.

It means documenting queer nightlife as culture and community infrastructure, not spectacle, and reporting on mutual aid networks, drag fundraisers, and grassroots organizing with the seriousness they deserve.

It means covering trans and nonbinary Pittsburghers beyond moments of legislative panic, telling stories that reflect full, complex lives instead of crisis headlines.

Harry Melling and Harry Lighton on the tender queer story of ‘Pillion’ In the A24 film “Pillion,” kink is neither punchline nor provocation. Instead, writer-director Harry Lighton and stars Alexander Skarsgård of “True Blood” and Harry Melling, the English actor who played Dudley Dursley in the “Harry Potter” films, craft something far rarer: a tender story about desire set within London’s gay biker dom/sub scene. What unfolds between Colin (Melling), a shy young man discovering himself, and the magnetic Ray (Skarsgård) is a shared journey that ultimately explores agency within the messy, moving process of defining what you want.

Condoms 101: The Classic That Still Delivers Welcome to The Quickie, Central Outreach Wellness Center’s monthly rundown of blogs, events, and health tips, served with sass and zero shame. It’s short, sexy, and gets right to the good stuff, and it’s delivered in part by QBurgh. Condoms are not boring. They are not outdated. They are not a “backup plan.” They are one of the most accessible, affordable, and effective tools we have for protecting ourselves and our partners, and they’ve been doing the job well for decades.

A pride flag, a bathroom ban, a job change: LGBTQ+ federal workers challenge Trump in court This story was originally reported by Kate Sosin of The 19th. Sarah O’Neill loved her job as a data scientist at the National Security Agency (NSA). “The government before last year was what I would consider to be a model employer,” O’Neill said. She started the job in 2019, two years after she started her transition to living as a woman.

Over the past year, the administration has faced a number of high-profile lawsuits over the ban on LGBTQ+ pride expression and refusal to let transgender workers use bathrooms that align with their genders.
