I had a really good conversation about it on Friday with a friend. I've experienced all these things myself: anger at being called out, defensive after my own ill-advised behaviour, rage at perfectly valid criticism. My conclusion was: listen and learn. Other folks I guess table flip and nope out.
I’ve struggled to understand it too. Best guess is a victim mentality, no learned emotional regulation, seeing criticism as an attack, and then taking the status quo literally that they can do and say what they want without tangible consequences.
Thank you for writing it. You did all the callouts and the links and the refutations. What a disappointment he has repeatedly revealed himself to be.
