If I might ask one more thing to be Aware of (for March only, don’t tax yourselves),people with LC are not hypochondriacs, they are not anti-social, they did not want an excuse to isolate forever, they are not doomers, and they are not faking.
They are sick, so being an asshole to them is beastly.
As some one slightly starving to death from this condition, what I’d like you to be Aware of is that when you go into public spaces without a mask, you risk getting or giving Long Covid, for which there is no treatment and no cure, and that’s a dumb risk and you should stop.
March is Long Covid Awareness month, because March is a lot like long covid in that every time you think it looks nice enough to go be active outside, you quickly regret it.

Chronic stress damages the gut through the brain/gut connection, and Long COVID is linked to GI issues (microbiome changes). But stress, post-viral effects and chronic viral exposure are doing a lot of the work. My stomach health changed drastically when I started resting and wearing my mask again.

And even given how obvious it was what was being done to us, most people threw their masks in the trash & pretended right along. This isn’t the sort of thing that leads to good outcomes—neither health ones nor society-wide ones.
It helped water the roots of MAHA in a very big way, for one thing.
Just like we built infrastructure for clean drinking water last century, we could have had a push for clean indoor air come out of Covid. But instead we were told the market demanded it wasn’t a problem anymore & swiftly memory-holed it at the behest of Delta airlines (& billionaires everywhere)
Anyway, it’s never too late to make these connections & act accordingly.
I’ve lost half a dozen friends over the past 6 years who saw these connections but died anyway because too few other people did. I have at least a dozen friends whose lives have been terribly impacted & made so much smaller.
When the government can convince you to abandon your community in favor of their needs & demands—even abandon your own health & that of your family—it’s a really powerful step in a dangerous direction. You’ve probably heard that pandemics are often followed by authoritarianism. It’s no coincidence.
Who cares, right? The only ones getting hurt/dying were weak or sick already, people who somehow don’t deserve to live in public… right? Well, even if that were true it’s monstrous—& it’s not true. Everyone’s getting sicker, tons are newly disabled. And lots are kids who didn’t have any say in it.
This is a good thread & I hope people reflect on how it relates to what happened in 2020-2022, and the ongoing pandemic—how most people, at the Democrats’ urging, decided to throw anyone who might need airborne virus mitigations in the trash🚮. And in doing so helped our slide into more brutality:
