Our paper FINALLY has a DOI, pre-print no-more. TLDR, the outer layer of the placenta is a single giant cell with billions of nuclei in a single common cytoplasm that can specialize their transcription in response to local environmental cues!

The web of science decision certainly won't stop me from submitting to eLife in the future. I'm hopeful it'll be the same for others!
The pdf has the reviewer comments at the end and reminds me of papers from the early-mid 20th century where the question and answers asked during conferences were published. There's no perfect publishing system. But I prefer eLife's transparent approach to peer review to the current standard
You can see our public reviews here- they are concise and easy to read to form your own judgement of our first submission. We're currently working on the suggested revisions and will re-submit in the new year! I think they're going to make it a much stronger paper.
