Evolution navigated billions of challenges to get to us to where we are today. Directed evolution compresses this to a 1D axis.
Imagine if you could sample 200 dimensions at once, with data to boot π
First @chorylab.bsky.social PACE preprint on our new system to tackle this: bit.ly/turboprance

Excited to share a glimpse into my postdoc work with @chorye.bsky.social at Duke where @stefan-golas.bsky.social and I developed TurboPRANCE, a robotics platform to scale and enable new phage-assisted continuous evolutions. bskytorial party!π 1/n

those small moments of optimism! The @gladfelterlab.bsky.social and Duke had a member of Thom Tillis's team visit the lab to talk about the bill, see the work we do, and meet the scientists behind it (on May 23rd oddly enough, the date on this letter). Would strongly recommend!

Sometimes it feels like my entire research portfolio has been inspired by electron microscopy images taken pre 1990. Thanks to #IFPA and Placenta for publishing this deep dive, it's dedicated to Drs Fox, Hamilton, Boyd, Burgos, Kaufmann and so many others! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Oof, just got notice HHMI is not even doing Hanna Gray Fellows, or any competition, this year due to the challenging times in science funding rn π¬ Understandable. On the bright side, I was really proud my applicationπ #science #nih #hhmi

Placenta datasets from trophoblast organoids and primary human tissue
We resubmitted our paper this week! Raw data is available on GEO (GSE288650) and here's an interactive app we made so anyone can look up their favorite genes in our single nucleus placenta datasets gladfelterlab.shinyapps.io/PlacentaRNAs...

A Tissue-Sized Cell with Billions of Nuclei
Single-nucleus RNA sequencing revealed specialized regions within the placenta's multinucleated cell.
Check out this article about our work on the most magical cell I know of in the human placenta! π More details available in our reviewed preprint on eLife, and raw data should finally be available first thing in the new year.

The web of science decision certainly won't stop me from submitting to eLife in the future. I'm hopeful it'll be the same for others!

The pdf has the reviewer comments at the end and reminds me of papers from the early-mid 20th century where the question and answers asked during conferences were published. There's no perfect publishing system. But I prefer eLife's transparent approach to peer review to the current standard

Comparative analysis of the syncytiotrophoblast in placenta tissue and trophoblast organoids using snRNA sequencing
You can see our public reviews here- they are concise and easy to read to form your own judgement of our first submission. We're currently working on the suggested revisions and will re-submit in the new year! I think they're going to make it a much stronger paper.

Comparative analysis of the syncytiotrophoblast in placenta tissue and trophoblast organoids using snRNA sequencing
This seems like a timely moment to announce my eLife reviewed preprint is now online! @elife.bsky.social Can't say I'm too concerned about the 'impact factor' loss. BUT I do want to mention how positive of an experience it's been thus far..
