my latest on the future of dallas city hall after a 16-hour city council hearing. there are some reasons for optimism, but the process has been disingenuous, disorganized, rushed, and lacking in transparency.

If you're not shocked by the fraction of city space taken up by car parking, you're not paying attention.
Congratulations!
F1's new 1-decimal gap display isn't just dumbing down the data. It creates a rounding problem that actually matters.
Overtake mode activates within a second of the car ahead. So is 0.950 shown as 1.0? Is 1.049 shown as 1.0? Cars could look out of range or in range when they're not.

Gawd, Zak Brown is such an attention whore.
I’m gutted for Oscar DNS at his home Grand Prix, but I hope Zak cries tonight. #F1 #AusGP
At your home race, nonetheless. 😲
Couple things here:
1. What the fuck
2. I am allllllmost more offended by the suggestion that I would give this shitbox edit than having my identity stolen
3. The CEO is scheduled to be on Decoder soon and we will see if they back out!

The more time I spend scrolling social media, the more I realize that it’s just not worth it.
I hate this stupid ballroom for a lot of reasons including the resulting asymmetrical kidney-bean shaped South Lawn drive.
I'm not surprised, just disappointed.
If this war lasts through September like some US news sources are suggesting today, we might lose the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Also, probably a good chance the Qatar GP and the Abu Dhabi GP get canceled.
So, the council voted to abandon City Hall? Or just study options for abandoning City Hall?
I can’t seem to find any recap or summary of the meeting online…
You asked, he answered.
Yesterday, while driving around the streets of Melbourne, Daniel Ricciardo answered several questions that were submitted via @theathletic.com's dedicated F1 WhatsApp channel. www.nytimes.com/athletic/708...
If we are truly a free republic, is it liberty to consider voting an endurance sport that takes hours to do? I’m grateful for these folks that stayed in line in spite of everything, but angered that we have to celebrate this like they ran a marathon. Voting should be easy, quick, and accessible for all. If you’re going to require a photo ID to vote, there needs to be a multitude of ways to obtain one, anywhere, anytime. I am writing this with a small handheld device that is a phone, a computer, a camera, and even my virtual office - do not tell me we do not have the capability to create a more accessible voting mechanism. A line at a polling place is a double edged sword. You love to see the engagement and the desire, but there shouldn’t be a line.
I wrote this originally in 2020, but I think about it every time I see photos of people waiting in long lines to vote.
the key thesis is that inner-city highways either fail as transportation (as General Bragdon predicted) or they wreck the local economy.
"These are not accidents, they are results." Exactly this.
Spring has arrived in Northwest Arkansas and that means all of the neighbors have brought out their gas powered leaf blowers.
Winter might be cold and dreary, but at least it's a bit of a reprieve from the constant WRRRRWWWRRRWRRRRRRRRRR droning throughout the city.
letting the wealthy loot the value of downtown is why downtown is in the shape it is.
Just a reminder that Trump didn't just bumble us into an unnecessary war -- he deliberately created the conditions that he's now screaming about
Trump, who campaigned against 'endless' wars, enters Iran with no end date www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...
The bombings will continue until morale improves
Jon Ossoff—the lone Senate Dem facing reelection in a Trump-won state—slams his Iran war: “I oppose yet another regime change war-of-choice in the Middle East. Congress must convene immediately and pass a War Powers Resolution to assert our Constitutional authority over war and peace.”
Local forecast: YOU MUST GET OUTSIDE - the temperatures will be delightful!
Local air quality: NOPE - prescribed burns everywhere, smoke for everyone!
The Verge out here doing the true reporting on the auto industry that car outlets (like Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, etc.) fail to do.
I’ll never own a Chrysler/Stellantis/whatever product.
Shouldn't it be "UNITED STATES ON THE PODUM" instead? Or count the medals won by all athletes who live in the USA but compete for their countries across all of America?
I'm so tired of the USA = America narrative.
If this is the world that we, as adults, have built for ourselves and for our children, then I think we need to seriously reconsider what the fuck we're doing with "social media" going forward.
Because this kind of nonsense is not fucking okay.
Always get the window seat. Always leave the window shade open - you never know what sunset magic the universe will send your way.
Simply stunning views over the western United States this evening.
I shared someone's post about this previously but just want to state how Curbed and Vox Media should be embarassed (if not straight up socially ostracized) for not maintaing their archive. What a fucking disaster.

A Grand Prix weekend consists of many events: practices, qualifying, & sometimes a Sprint Race with its own qualifying.
However, "The Grand Prix is the culmination of all of the weekend’s running, where the drivers race each other to be the first to cross the finish line after 305 km of running."
