Ralph Abraham, the CDC’s new deputy director

Ralph Abraham, the CDC’s new deputy director

Ralph Abraham, CDC’s new deputy director:

- halted Louisiana’s mass vaccination campaign

- promoted discredited treatments like ivermectin

- delayed deadly whooping cough outbreak warnings

- backed anti-fluoride policies

- fought to repeal ACA

He should not be making national health decisions!

All it would have taken is one doc (of the 90+!! who saw her) to say "Fuck it, I'm saving this woman's life. Come after me Ken. I dare you." But no one did.

Yes, we can publicly criticize that too.

State Mifepristone Regulation Following GenBioPro v Raynes This Viewpoint discusses the GenBioPro v Raynes decision and what it could mean for other cases challenging medication abortion restrictions on preemption grounds.

Indeed, the 4th Circuit will be deciding another preemption case (Bryant v. Stein) soon, which challenges North Carolina's medication abortion laws. We argue that the preemption arguments in this case are stronger & the case may come out differently. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

If deporting US citizen children with cancer isn’t your redline, it’s time to reassess your priorities.

Lots of people I know that were furious about kids having to wear masks are real quiet about a two year old citizen being wrongfully deported

There are fewer than 10 clinics where people who need these abortions can get themβ€”and no it's not only people with tragic diagnoses. Restrictions on care, sexual assault, late recognition of pregnancy can all lead to someone traveling to another state for a third trimester abortion.

Disappearing people without any due process is fascism β€” full stop. I’m sick to my stomach and we all should be.

As Expected, Minors Are Among Those Most Impacted by Anti-Abortion Laws β€œWithout access to abortion, these girls have lost the ability to control their lives and their futures,” one researcher said.

β€œMinors are often targeted by restrictive policies and less able to use routes to abortion care common for adultsβ€”traveling to another state or using telehealthβ€”leaving them disproportionately impacted” says YRE's own @lauralindberg.bsky.social in @jezebeldotcom.bsky.social

Graph from the Washington Post showing declines in spending at NIH. New grants cut from 1 billion to around 400 million. Overall grants down from 4.5 billion to 2.4 billion.

Trump has cut the NIH budget by more than half in defiance of Congressionally mandated appropriations for the agency. No comparison historically, not even the Great Recession. This is clearly not legal and Congress needs to address it.

On a day like this, it’s important to say THANK YOU to all the science and public health communicators for all you do. Your work will be even more critical in the coming years. Keep going! You are very much needed and appreciated. ❀️

These include: abortion bans (you have the AMA to thank for their very existence), our lack of single-payer health-care, the fact that your medical insurance doesn’t cover dental… I can go on…

PSA:

Counseling people that abortion is an option is NOT β€œpromoting abortion.”

It’s called β€œinformed consent.”
This is required under medical ethics.

Withholding abortion as a health care option for pregnant people is like withholding chemotherapy as an option for people with cancer.

What people think media literacy is: Yelling at 60 Minutes for β€œwithholding” 8 month old footage of American bombs in Gaza

What media literacy actually is: Reading carefully and understanding that β€œfootage shot by CBS News in May” means 60 Minutes is reusing old footage from a different tv program

People sometimes make fun of science that sounds stupid and random.

Meanwhile, a study of lizard saliva turned into a peptide medication, which was turned into a diabetes medication, which was turned into a GLP1 weight loss drug, that just became the first therapy every approved for … sleep apnea
