i yelled at claude the other day and it started responding super tersely (but listened lol)
roko puttin me up against the wall first

I turn 37 in less than 2 weeks and I still use my moms number at safeway
that preview image is something my system can build for every product I have catalogued, it took a stupid amount of work
I built a system to build, render, navigate to, screenshot, save, and pack a better social preview image for my product pages:
www.supplementatlas.com/p/wheybolic-...
built a pretty big feature for my site today:
www.supplementatlas.com/wizard
I can say among actual tech workers there's a very big backlash, problem is that it's the billionaire ceo/vc class that have all the voice in the room.
on HN, there usually is a pretty loud pro-crypto/libertarian bro contingent, and they have been pretty silent recently
midday standup:
last night and this morning I built a huge batching system for my product imports and also turned on a related products import feature I had waiting. Today I was able to add one product and have the system autonomously collect, analyze, categorize, and asseme all of that line
time for my evening bluesky standup
today I
- added filters to search (big)
- rewrote a lot of my tailwind/styling code
- added a bunch of themes for testing new designs
- made search look nice
- made the site look and function on mobile better
- began reprocess work
www.supplementatlas.com/search
after struggling to get back to work after a vacation, today i:
- set up infra automation
- set up prod search
- added new product flags
+ pipeline changes to injest
+ wired it all the way through variants/search/frontend
- built new search page
failed:
- gemini
- new theming
I don't understand how deepseek/chatgpt-4o/o3-mini score better than Claude's Sonnet-3.5 when it comes to coding. Claude is lightyears better than all of them (from extensive personal experience).
website password reset forms love to be like 'okay you've verified yourself now choose a new password' and then when you choose it they make you log in and are like 'but wait is this really you'
built search today (backend) and elastic search is hell (actually itβs okay but man)
I told a joke about Orpheus but looking back, it wasnβt a good idea, really hellish response
built a firefox extension (chrome too, but there are some bugs still and i use ff, fuck google)
having had a day and a half to play around with deepseek, I can pretty confidently say that the us ai companies/nvidia are not in any danger
for first-response of what are clearly predefined prompt paths, it does an okay job, but it loses context immediately and becomes useless the more you use
Dark modeeee
didn't do any of this, but I did implement a dark mode, a toggler, saving that setting, saving announcement dismissals, a toooon of ui tweaks and improvements, a theming system
was told to look in to langchain for generative extraction flows
looked, their system works almost identically to how I designed mine, independenly
makes me feel alright about my software design skills
I am an idiot. My darkmode toggle hasnt been working and I've been pulling my hair out, and I just realize that I'm inverting the colors on the variables but ALSO inverting them on the color definitions, so they just end up being the same.
need to do some cleanup of old ingredients code, build out the allergens system (probably attached to the formulation and to ingredients, for stated and also presumed), and then I wanna build out some data fixing jobs (filling in missing data, confirming existing, etc)
also amazon api hookup
updates for SA today:
- tooled around with deepseek
- build a codebase exporter for use with ais
- rebuilt the ingredients modeling
- greatly expanded the import pipeline error handling
- migrated ingredients
- updated frontend to match
here's what the new ingredients list looks like:
I have a really bad habit of letting easily fixable problems just sit there, like it's less effort to walk with a rock in my shoe than to take it out
built a script to package up my codebase in to a .txt file to feed to ai agents, first test I asked deepseek to tell me what it knows and it gave me a pretty thorough understanding of the project
the weight of the completeness of the totality of movement that one simple chore (taking dishes to the kitchen) caused me to shut down and not do it, and i'd trick myself by thinking of the problem rather than do it, out of a want for efficient (in a way frictionless) movement
my brain has been so wired to pre-optimize everything to the point that the smallest tasks become conceptually enormous: cleaning up is getting all dishes in one go + finding something in the kitchen to bring back on my return trip + picking up laundry because its in that direction
@hgmodernism.bsky.social's bit about introducing friction in to your life resonated; the thing that first started to get me out of my dopamine-fucked adhd inability to do anything was telling myself to to what I needed to do inefficiently, like if I had dishes out I had to take just a single cup -->
testing something (testing to see if social images/desc shows up) (this is my site)
