I've found this work spectacularly especially if you setup the generation to just be a handful of dice rolled at once.
I have a creation system similar to this for my homebrew system. Initial roll is Region of birth which gives a sub-table for species type. Region determines the Cultural trades table you roll on. That table has a sub-section for species specific trades for that region.
Classes work similarly.
