I dont think thats true anymore, its not in current NEC, and it likely further depends on what your wiring MFG states. Current AL wire tends to be various alloys many of which dont have the issues that older al wiring did.
I _allegedly_ DIYd my charger install, and the installation instructions specifically had a different set of required wire gauges for al vs copper to prevent this stuff.
