The troubles
The troubles
What a fucking crock.
Two mid-level officials found to be corrupt by the NACC, but the big guns get off scot-free forever.
Bsky staff have continually managed to make these bad decisions/actions and it's honestly impressive how much they are squandering a good opportunity.
Get this to the High Court asap, these laws are so unconstitutional it's embarrassing
"The government might be wishing Australia taxed its LNG exports as much as the royalties on iron ore, and better still, coal.
"LNG prices are soaring, but we only get 2% of that on top of the company tax, compared with 7% for iron ore and 13% for coal."

Recommendations and outcomes The investigation made findings of serious corrupt conduct against 2 individuals. It also concluded that there was insufficient admissible evidence to establish the alleged offences against either Mr Withnell or Ms Wilson beyond reasonable doubt. Key admissions and statements made during this investigation are not admissible in criminal proceedings. It is therefore not appropriate to refer either to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. The NACC Act invests the Commission with corruption prevention and education functions and the power to make recommendations as part of the Commissionβs investigation reports aimed at preventing corrupt conduct from occurring again. In this case, however, the Royal Commission made a number of recommendations to improve the budget process and agency responses to the Commonwealth Ombudsman, and they have since been implemented.
NACC clears Morrison, Campbell, Musolino, & Halbert of corrupt conduct.
Withnell & Wilson were found guilty of "serious corrupt conduct", but aren't referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions because statements they made to NACC "are not admissible in criminal proceedings"
The system works!
You can read NACC's investigation into the Robodebt Six here. I'll post some "highlights" in this thread www.nacc.gov.au/sites/defaul...
Hearings 62. Private hearings were held pursuant to section 62 of the NACC Act extending over 35 sitting days between 5 August and 3 October 2025. During those private hearings, each of the 6 referred persons and a further 33 witnesses were called to give evidence. See Witnesses. 63. The Deputy Commissioner considered the use of public hearings and applied the statutory test established under the NACC Act. The statutory threshold for public hearings in this investigation was not met. For more
NACC decided it wasn't in the public interest to make its corruption hearings with Morrison, Campbell, Mussolino etc public
I would conservatively estimate that 90% of Australians would disagree
In the present context, however, of an investigation into allegations of corrupt conduct, we are not so much concerned with Diceyan theory of ministerial accountability and Cabinet solidarity as with personal obligations of honesty and good faith. Thus, although Mr Morrison may have been responsible to Cabinet for the failings of DSS β in particular for DSSβ failings in not preventing the shortcomings of the NPP and checklist β it by no means necessarily follows that Mr Morrison was personally at fault for not detecting the failings of DSS or that he set out to act dishonestly or in bad faith. The question of any personal shortcoming requires consideration of the system and circumstances of ERCβs operation at the time of its adoption of the NPP.
The passages clearing Morrison of fault are extraordinary
NACC says Morrison is technically "responsible" as cabinet Minister, but not "personally at fault"
If responsibility exists without consequence...then what does "ministerial accountability" even mean anymore?
Fair to say they might as well roll up the NACC.
What a disgrace.

As AI has upended the way students learn, academics worry about the future of the humanities - and society at large
You're damn right it is

this is the future liberals want
"Don't Forget Gaza and the Palestinians"
"Israel is using the illegal war on Iran to continue to kill and starve Gaza, steal more Palestinian land, and restrict movement in the West Bank, writes Diana Buttu for Zeteo. "Don't look away."
Itβs unfathomable to me that we donβt see the dangers of automating everything with AI or that we donβt care. Years from now weβre going to be begging to put the human back into everything.
The reviews used to justify this excluded nearly 97% of all studies from inclusion in their analysis. This is an absolutely obscene hatchet job by the NHS specifically created to eliminate access to hormones for trans youth.
Waj, there was also a similar incident during our "Invasion Day" (an anti-colonial/first nations protest to Jan26, our "Australia Day") rally this Jan. Took over a week for it to be classed a terrorist attack

Well, to be fair, quite a portion of ICE is Latino so maybe they thought they'd be ok with it? Or maybe they figured they'd deport them all banks the midterms?
Except this one has actually fought in a war, and seems like his dad liked him
A few years ago I heard about "fragging", VN-war era practice of throwing grenades into the tents of officers grunts didn't like. What on earth do they think would happen if they drafted kids today, who are raised on a diet of toxicity and lack of accountability?
Yes, there's a plan for fuel crisis. The Govt spent $150k trying to stop @mrrexpatrick.bsky.social FOI to get it. Here it is - published with link to worse case

I have no faith in a deity, because if they existed, Brian Kilmeade would be on the absolute lowest of the socioeconomic scale to show him just how quickly things go south when you don't have money.
Like a lot of things rich guys believe and fund, the AI consciousness thing is in part driven by a desire to abscond from the responsibility of what they've made. It also explains why so many of them think we're in a simulation. Doesn't matter if everybody died if we're all just 1s and 0s baby!
Greg Craven is a deeply biased, extremely rightwing POS and tax payers are giving him almost a quarter million dollars to further the rightwing control of universities. @albomp.bsky.social this is appalling #auspol

Abolition is the baseline. The bare minimum
Newly released footage shows an ICE agent killing Rubin Ray Martinez, 23, in his car in Texas.
"He was shot at point-blank range through his side window by an ICE agent who was in no danger."

My belief is that COVID did two things. First is that COVID infections cause damage to the brain m. The other is that it also gave some people a push to just be selfish and ignore the social contract. Started with ignoring lockdowns and mask mandates, and now this.
Exactly this. There is currently no ethical AI in my opinion. It's not worth the harm and damage it causes. There is potential but not with the current options
Boycott all AI.
