Look, Iβm tech agnostic. Use what works for you!
And still⦠I fucking hate Substack.
And the social aspect of Substack is almost certainly overrated! The reason peopleβs newsletters grow is because other authors mention them and link to them. That has *nothing* to do with the platform! Other platforms (Ghost, Beehiiv, Wordpress, Buttondown, Medium) have better economics, too.

Just to dispel the notion that Substack is the cheapest option for smaller paid newsletters than I described in my first example:
($ amounts represent monthly cost)
Ghost is that platform. @theradr.bsky.social has written about how Ghost is an ethical nonprofit.
Itβs not that much of a pain. People like the convenience & social networking aspect of Substack. Then they try to convince themselves thatβs more important than not giving a fucking inch to fascists.
In the latest post on The Fiery Well I talk about leaving Google Workspace:
"But for me, it was time to make the move. Convenience is coming at a price I can't justify anymore: security. Peace of mind. The fact that I fucking *hate* generative AI..."

I'm working on something about domain names and I'd love to know: what questions do you have about them? And I mean any and all. No question is too small, weird, obscure, or silly!

But in all seriousness it was great to see this being addressed in a kidβs show.
Still not letting my kids near social media until theyβre 30.
My kid is into Big City Greens on Disney+ and they had an episode on misinformation and the internet. I was blown away. An excellent conversation starter.
9 yo: but *why* would people spread misinformation? And on purpose???
Me: β¦ well, my sweet child. People are β¦ assholes.
I fucking hate generative AI
Please sign this petition to ban LGBTQ conversion therapy across the EU. Only three countries, Finland, France & Ireland, have reached the minimum threshold. So if you are an EU citizen please sign & share. The UN considers conversion therapy torture: eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

As I break up with social media, tech monopolies, and all in one tools, I'm reminded of the internet of old. It required a lot of effort to find what one was looking for. It was a simpler time. Not necessarily easier. But it was absolutely more enjoyable. More intentional.
Ah. So this is 40.
Thank you for the @, Lex - escaping Google is difficult, but I am finding it worth the effort to try. I just gave up Workspace. Always happy to discuss! I'm more available on my Discord, but I pop in here occasionally (hence the late reply)
The annoying thing about doing concrete magic for political outcomes is you have to actually understand politics to do it
I had no idea this was a thing, but I found Dayton Childrens (Ohio) also does this! Thank you to OP for sharing this thread - childrensdaytongive.org/send-a-card/
Do you work in tech and want to rebel against this administration?
Integrate accessibility into your product work, no matter the laws and the bullshit this administration says, no matter what your execs say.
Treat it as a given, don't ask for permission.
Foxes are showing up for me again. Hint taken.
Astrology and capitalism go well together because their priorities both boil down to βdoing business in the daytime.β
There are dozens of ways this cross-contamination shows up in your astrological practice that you likely arenβt aware of. My workshop on Tuesday will fix that.
It should work now - if not, the embed is an Airtable form you can find directly here: airtable.com/appPJJ6OKQCb...
Sorry about that! In updating my cookie policies, I missed this one!
Ah! Thank you Iβll get that sorted straight away
If anybody is worried about this, I will gladly play the role of "dude with the red string on the cork board" so you look sane by comparison. Because the reality is the richest person in the world is a nazi who snuck in at midnight to steal every American's data so he could shut down the government.
An oldie but a goodie, up now at www.thefierywell.com/due-vs-do/
Reminder: I'm leaving the majority of social media platforms soon and the only way to stay in touch will be through my website and Discord. Sign up now and stay in touch.
When people keep asking, βWhat can I do?β when referring to improving the state of the world, you can wear a mask. Itβs one of the easiest ways to protect minorities and create community care. It also shows noncompliance. You want to be a revolutionary? Wear a mask!
For #BlackHistoryMonth this year, Iβm going to be posting daily about: representations of blackness in Greco-Roman antiquity, the history of scholarship by Black classicists, and the history of Africana receptions using the hashtag #AncientBlackness. Join me.
