π On this day 1902, the permanent home of Gladstone's Library was formally opened in Hawarden, Flintshire, Wales.
William Gladstone had founded the library in the 1890s, and after his death a public appeal funded a new memorial building.
Today it remains Britain's only Prime Ministerial library.
