How To Talk About Climate Change So People Will Listen - Chatelaine As a climate scientist, I’ve been called everything from a charlatan to the handmaiden of the Antichrist. Here’s how I handle the tough conversations.

Canadian version :) chatelaine.com/living/how-t...

Maybe you don’t know I’m Canadian.

In Canada, our sense of efficacy tanked after the wildfire season in 2023. It became obvious that recycling and eating a plant based burger wouldn’t fix it – so many people gave up.

Please do read the article. This is literally what I think about every day!

I literally just got carded last night. I thanked him profusely for the compliment. I think I might’ve embarrassed him πŸ˜‚

This is fascinating! My cousin is my travel buddy, and although we share very similar upbringings (and obviously genetics as well), our navigation ability is radically different. In fact, it is probably the biggest difference between us. I always wondered why!

Canada is working on allowing citizens born outside the country to pass their citizenship on to their children, which wasn’t the case before …. I know a few people who are going to be taking advantage of that!

This will be useful because this has already happened to me!

A few months ago I ran into a YouTube video with AI generated version of me. It was not malicious - the climate content was okay tho not great - but it certainly wasn’t by me or endorsed by me.

β€˜Hey’ came before β€˜hi,’ and β€˜hi' came before β€˜hello.’

β€˜Hi’ is most likely a variant of β€˜hey.’

β€˜Hello’ is not related to either.

Goodbye.

Solving the climate equation Most people worry about climate change, but few know what to do. The right tools allow us to convert scientific urgency into effective action.

It’s a common misconception that people aren’t worried enough. Data shows that most people are in fact worried – but they haven’t connected climate back to every day concerns and they don’t know what to do about it. I summarize the science here: www.astronomy.com/science/solv...

The last northern spotted owl in B.C. is likely gone. Is it too late to bring them back? A new federal recovery plan for the species offers a glimmer of hope, but with no owls sighted since 2023, it may be too little, too late

I’m very glad if others have a different experience there. Positive experiences online are increasingly rare; we need to appreciate them wherever we can find them!

Sadly, that’s not the case for me. I was on there from the beginning. After the initial surge, networks completely stagnated. Even worse, most commenters agree with me on climate but want to nitpick some tiny thing we disagree on. I don’t engage there anymore simply to protect my mental health.
