How many guys in the NBA could score 80+ if they were 100% committed to statchasing? I don’t think it’s that many:

Maybe 1-2 others? 80 is insane. Most guys can’t get to 50, even with the most shameless grifting.

Val is running in quicksand lately. He’s been a disaster defensively against athletic teams, OKC especially. I think he’s gotta be a selective play, not an every nighter.
He hasn’t had any heroics but is that disappearing, really? Jokic and Jamal are dominating the ball in clutch time and it’s not been effective, I agree. But is that Cam’s fault? Tough to say unless he’s forgoing open shots and I haven’t seen that.
Not sure if he qualifies as an *upgrade* 1:1 over MPJ but the trade is working out, in my opinion. People are just giving him the Barton treatment because they need a scapegoat for painful losses. I get it, it’s just not what the stats say!
I tend to agree with all of this but do find it perplexing that “he’s not taken over games” is getting equated to “he sucks” by so many people. He just does not suck! He’s good!

He’s looked cautious to shoot only a bit IMO, but I think it’s because he knows Jokicball means finding the high percentage shot. Letting it fly more often might be good for those optics. But he has to keep hitting them or he’ll get accused of “jacking threes.”
Denver has the league’s best offense. Jamal and Jokic have astronomical usage numbers. And now AG is back. Is the idea that Cam should be taking more of those possessions? Should the offense feature his creation more? Why change something that’s best in the league?

My guess is that fans want Cam to be what MPJ is in BKN: a volume scorer on extreme usage. But he’s not that and can’t be that.
Or, maybe fans just want to see impact/splash plays more. MPJ was great at dropping daggers to bury teams or big shots to stop runs. Cam is not really doing that.
And he’s not really that much of a Jokic merchant. He’s +4.0 NetRtg without Jokic in 200 minutes this year!
The offense when he’s on the floor has been outstanding. Best in the league. The team defense is not amazing, but it is identical when he’s off the court.
Cam Johnson is shooting 40.4% on 3s this year, higher than either of his years in Brooklyn and above his career average.
He’s shooting 83.5% on FTs, second best on DEN. His rebound and assist numbers are virtually the same as prior years.
He’s playing defense fine.
Why does everyone hate him?
SGA had 15 assists tonight, mostly out of doubling and help. I’d probably prefer to make someone else beat you too, but it’s not like they don’t have shooters and he was passing to open guys all night.

The discrepancy between allowable contact on guards vs bigs is never more stark than when Denver plays OKC. It’s two different rule books.

Murray’s ankles need to be studied by science. He rolls them regularly. Looks terrible, seems extremely painful. But he always comes right back, sometimes even during the same game. I roll an ankle and I’m walking weird for two months.
