tender/gruff… creative/destructive… nurturing/neglectful… graceful/rigid… seeker/quarry… conceptive/contributive… emotional/stoic… ordering/chaotic… societal/anarchic… compromising/combative...
If only there was a single word to unify each melange into an archetypal whole.
... the self, but making sure that the self is never more important than the rest of the selves. The heart is exactly as important, no more and no less, than the bowel and the brain. The need for ego, for self-promotion/elevation, is contrary to community.
subsumation =/= abnegation.
Subsumate = to consider (yourself, in this case) as part of a comprehensive whole.
abnegate = to deny or give up rights/possessions.
In order for a community to work, you can never consider yourself as separate from it in any way. This is not about denying... 1/2
Community really only works when people are ready to subsume the self. The good of the many outweighs the good of the few or the one. Anyone whose ego needs stroked has already caused harm to the community, be it leader or member.
That looks really comfy & warm. How long does it take you to make something like that?
Kind of a bizarrely written headline, but yay for the notice
