When Marx says the credit system cannot be separated from precious metals, his argument does not seem to be that commodity money is essential for his analysis of value. Rather, his argument seems to be that reliance on credit cannot eliminate the need for money. This remains true for fiat money.
Also, today is Albert Einstein's birthday! How cool is that?
A tombstone for Ludolph van Ceulen in latin declaring pi to be between the values of 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288 and 3.14159265358979323846264338327950289
Fun bit of Pi lore, the German-Dutch mathematician calculated 35 digits of Pi back in the 1500s by finding the perimeter of a polygon with 2^62 sides. He put these digits on his tombstone. Netwon later found a much easier way to calculate Pi a few decades later.

Happy Pi Day, everyone.
I have finished chapter 36 of Capital Vol 3, finishing up the section on the profit, interest, and the banking and credit system! Been very interesting.
For how much I've heard the term 'fictitious capital' thrown around, I thought it would have been discussed more.
Interview with Iranian anarchists:
"the liberation of the people of Iran cannot be the result of projects imposed by foreign powers. Freedom can only emerge from the struggle and will of the people themselves".

As a kid, I had the intuition " if the government is hiding the existence of aliens, why is it doing that better than it does anything else." I think that thought kept me out of a lot of conspiracy spirals.

People glorifying Light Yagami get his character all wrong. The man is basically a Young Republican. He doesn't feel any injustice about the system that lets "the corporations write the regulations." He targets petty criminals, people already in jail, and anyone who would hold him accountable.
Very funny seeing liberals walk this line of condemning the Iran war while also praising Zelensky for joining in
tending to the socially dead@blackradicaljit Mar 2 The naive aversion to anarchists and our consistently accurate anti-statist critique of campism, is the main reason why people who align with marxist leninism (or any form of authoritarian leftism) will never have a comprehensive analysis and understanding of internationalism.
Majority of anarchist stuff I see online is campist for the West. Exceptions being Black Rose & the Anarchist Communist Federation in Australia. No War But Class War groups like ACG UK are also campist because they pretend they don't live in the UK & that Palestine vs Israel is an equal fight.
Most people using the word idealism don't understand what it means or what Marx is criticizing.
It's usually just a way of saying "you are naive and idealistic, wanting everything to go perfect" and not "you are reifying the abstract idea as a real and concrete entity."
Not that you don't find Marx's feeling shared by many other Marxists too today, though perhaps a bit more hidden and framed in an east v west thing
Marxists today: Imperialism must be opposed
Marx: Oh cool, political power is being centralized! This advances the revolution
(This is an improvement, ofc.)
Read a 1819 letter by a white woman complaining about how overwhelmed she is by domestic labour because her husband doesn't help around the house and she has to manage 'the servants' by herself. What she called 'the servants' included slaves. One wonders what the slaves thought about this.
@RepJeffries on X: Donald Trump promised to keep America out of costly and endless foreign wars. He is now doing the exact opposite in the Middle East. Congress must vote on a War Powers resolution immediately. 28 Feb 26
While Republicans fully support Trump's war with Iran, Democratic leaders do not oppose it. There is no effective opposition.
Hakeem Jeffries is merely demanding that the administration "must explain itself to the American people and Congress" and "provide an ironclad justification."
In 2025, Oleksiy Goncharenko, a Member of Ukraineβs Parliament made an impassioned speech to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe supporting Israeli aggression against Iran. Afterward he told the Times of Israel that he assessed Israel's war on Palestine βin the most positive terms.β
Furthermore, even if one manages to reduce the power of the deputies, if one breaks power up by making each commune a State in miniature, everything will remain the same. The question of true delegation versus representation can be better understood if one imagines a hundred or two hundred men, who meet each day in their work and share common concerns, who know each other thoroughly, who have discussed every aspect of the question that concerns them and have reached a decision. They then choose someone and send him to reach an agreement with other delegates of the same kind on this particular issue. On such an occasion the choice is made with full knowledge of the question, and everyone knows what is expected of his delegate. The delegate is not authorised to do more than explain to other delegates the considerations that have led his colleagues to their conclusion. Not being able to impose anything, he will seek an understanding and will return with a simple proposition which his mandatories can accept or refuse. This is what happens when true delegation comes into being; when the communes send their delegates to other communes, they need no other kind of mandate. This is how it is done already by meteorologists and statisticians in their international congresses, by the delegates of railway and post administrations meeting from several countries.
Well, as names, either could be used. But the basic idea when distinguished in anarchism is whether power is given away or retained. A common contrast I use is how you are represented by, say, your senator vs how you are represented by your lawyer. Quoting Kropotkin's "Words of a Rebel"
