I do agree with you that people do have a reason for what they do, just that in this particular case "they had a reason" doesn't seem here or there. people whose motivations I personally find inscrutable are hard to predict or trust even if they have them

it doesn't know what these authors' feedback looks like because it's never been trained on feedback given by those authors. at best it's making up plausible ideas, maybe they're good, but it's not doing what it's pretending to do
