Look so this isn't really OP's the point, but one of the weirdest things about the prequels *even at the time* was the disconnect between their /relatively/ astute politics & big-picture work on the one hand and their clunky writing & scene-work on the other
So it is. And the James Dean/Marilyn Monroe/Elvis kitsch store has been replaced by a Funko Pop store which is probably replaced by…labubus or something
That surprises me a little, because James Dean the Pop Culture Icon had a resurgence ten-twenty years back.
This is entirely separate from James Dean the Actor and I don’t imagine that the folks buying the posters and shirts had ever watched Giant.
Or, if you see a guy with a bushy mustache and wild eyes, it’s probably based on Bob Hope’s sideman Jerry Colonna
