Hi Henk!
The original game has a very small tileset, and relies heavily on lighting system to make it look good. For a version without real-time light, I'll probably need to make the world look much nicer. Also, MB/WB are adventure/metroidvanias, so probably better fit for Megadrive?

Would've been far more respectable if I was using Z80 Assembler. As is, it's just an exercise to prove to myself that this is possible. Sinclair Basic wasn't ever gonna take me all the way: )

It becomes totally playable at 300% speed. Right now my biggest issue is memory, especially memory for graphics.

Yeah - pure basic at 100% speed. I tried redrawing the β€œ3D” view in one go by cuing it up into a single PRINT command, but Sinclair Basic β€œOut of memory”’d meπŸ˜‚

It was just an experiment to see if it could be done in ZX Spectrum Basic. I doubt it'll ever become a full game, as I'm already running out of memory (there is, like 32k of RAM, and Sinclair Basic is notoriously inefficient). Although, I WAS thinking about making my own similar dungeon crawler

Belle games were always meant to be Sega Saturn-esque! Due to some jank with my lighting system I can’t really use alpha transparency on active playfield elements, so there is a lot of dithered vfxπŸ˜…

Thank you! I really hope it'll appeal to at least some people, since the game is an adventure-game/metroidvania hybrid, which means backtracking, inventory puzzles and dialogue trees in addition to all the exploration platforming and action.
