Hedgerows & Willow Tits ~ A thread
Carmarthenshire holds more Willow Tits than any other county in Wales (Wotton, S. 2022). Looking at satellite maps of the county, itβs clear to see the potential for these birds, with areas of suitable wooded habitats, interconnected with unmanaged hedgerows.

And now the real thing is here. Looking forward to sending out pre-pub orders (offer applies through March) laurencerose.co.uk
Incredible ringing recovery this AM by Stour Ringing Group of a Kestrel caught near Arne which was carrying a Dutch ring and a sat-tag. Well done for getting the data so quickly. Amazing movement for a bird that typically isnβt considered to move large distances. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

Hi Gail it's a few lines in my forthcoming book, due out this summer. There's a bit more to it than what I've said here so I'll DM you.
Reminds me of alder wood a few days after sawing. I wrote about that recently and despite searching long & hard couldn't find a definitive reason. It's probably due to exposure of polyphenol oxidase to oxygen. In combination with other compounds it appears to be a defence against various pathogens.

Happy birthday!
Me too!
Very sorry to hear of the loss of a former colleague on the international conservation stage. Gerard was invaluable in injecting expertise, wisdom and humour into many a meeting around Europe.

#birdoftheday Canary Island Kestrel. A distinctive race of Common Kestrel. Seems very common here on Gran Canaria. In my experience they hardly ever hover. The ones here at the JardΓn BotΓ‘nico Viera y Clavijo were feeding on insects.

Thanks David and HNY.
Might as well carry on and call it a January sale.
