INTERVIEW OF

11 Q. So how did you get yourself started into submersible
12 operations?
13
A.
Well, I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic.
When I
14
set down the path to make that film, the first thing that I did
15
was arrange to be introduced to the head of the submersible
16
program at the P.P. Shirshov Institute in Moscow, a guy named
17|
Professor
I. I did that through a mutual friend
18
of ours, a guy named
, who is one of the preeminent
underwater cinematographers in the world. And had been on a
20
submersible expedition out to Titanic the previous year with the
21
Russians. And that was organized by a Canadian company that was
22 doing an IMAX film which was released under the title Titanica.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

man Kaleb Horton wasn't just a great writer he was a great photographer too. it fucking sucks watching poverty and unemployment wear down immensely talented people until they're suddenly just gone way too fucking soon. this is a cruel country.

So few writers and commentators have directly and accurately captured the evil and horror and melancholy of our time, but also the value of fighting back, and the fact that several of the ones who did (Michael Hastings, Michael Brooks, Kaleb Horton) are no longer with us makes it all the more sad.

Remember when the Kony 2012 guy had his brain so broken by social media he was found naked on the street doing weird sex stuff and vandalizing everything within reach? What if 13 years later we made the whole government out of that guy

I was talking with a reporter the other day about this. They asked why I thought guys like Bezos, Soon-Shiong, and Zuckerberg were suddenly so open with their Trumpy politics. I said that I thought it was because Elon Musk showed them that they could and they wouldn't face any real repercussions.

Just listened to the Safdie Bros on a podcast talking about how Uncut Gems took 10 years to get off the ground. Every time it wouldn't work they'd just say screw it and make another small movie they could control until they got there and man, if that isn't the best advice.

President Obama continues to be the only American President to have been born when the U.S. had 50 states.

Carter, both Bushes, Clinton, Trump and Biden were all born when there were only 48 states. So was JFK.

Reagan was born when there were only 46 lol

The point of all of this
The most illiterate men alive were gassing themselves up because the computer had gotten some small degree better at producing dog shit that had the general production values of a circa 2004 video game cutscene. Delighting in the approach of a spiritually and culturally dead future devoid of art and meaning. You do have to admit that a new Narcos season starring Brad Pitt and Mr. Beast and Travis Kelce sounds pretty sick though.
There's only one flaw I can see in this supposed AI-generated future of seven fingered bikini babes with death behind their eyes and photorealistic Family Guy pornos: I don’t understand where they think their personalized sense of aesthetics they plan to input into the computer is going to come from down the line when all human artists have been driven out of business. If you want something perfectly tailored 1:1 to your own taste meant solely for you to experience alone you can already do that just by sitting there and thinking about

Mr. Beast show is fascinating.
1. For most popular YouTuber he’s not very charismatic and the show seems to be assembled in an attempt to actively hide this.
2. For somebody who is so brand obsessed, it’s unfathomable that he thought this would have him/his brand come off well.
