‘One Piece’ Producers Tomorrow Studios to Adapt ‘Samurai Champloo’ With Creator Shinichirō Watanabe (EXCLUSIVE) Tomorrow Studios is developing a live-action adaptation of the anime "Samurai Champloo," with original series creator Shinichirō Watanabe attached.

This series is such a unique mix of hip-hop and urban culture that I'm not sure how it works in live-action.

I want them not to adapt the anime, but start with the same exact premise and use today's hip-hop and urban culture instead. (Which is apparently the plan.)

Some of these things can be fought through collective action. If workers as a whole refuse to work for studios and publishers that release predatory games or solely offer employment with the constant risk of layoffs, we might just get somewhere.

And both industries have a tendency to trend chase their way into calamitous crashes!

Here I should also note the similarity between comics’ and games’ woeful history of pay and stability for devs. My dumb ass is comfortable at the moment, but you still have well-heeled studios offering £40k for senior staff in one of the most expensive cities in the world…

And why should they? The last generation has seen publishers attempt to steer audiences away from single player games in the hopes of hooking them on forever games (released annually).

And when you serve your audience a steady diet of bombast, you potentially poison them against anything else.

There’s also less taste at the executive level and more trend chasing.

Capital’s gonna capitalize, sure, but ROI and metrics seem to have so thoroughly poisoned the brains of the execs writing checks (and a few studio heads) to the extent that there’s genuine terror around taking risks.
