βItβs going to look bad on our community,β Riel said. βWhy the hell would I do anything with the city if this is how Iβm treated? Someone dropped the ball and it certainly wasnβt council.β

Sad news.
A road closure and bus detour notification for Sunday, March 15th for the St Patrickβs Day Parade. Pretty much the entirety of George Street from City Hall to the Mem Centre will be shut down.
FYI for tomorrow. The St Patrickβs Day Parade will be shutting George Street down.
A shame the fun run couldnβt take advantage of the closure to do the annual charity event, but Iβm not a city employee who can cancel stuff on a whim
*side-eye meme*
Doug Ford says he needs to keep his cell phone records private to protect the privacy of his constituents calling to ask him to install a stop sign on their street or ask him to sell them a Conservation Area cheap.
Atrocious. Caused by police and weak staff. Makes #Ptbo look like bumbling idiots.
Following and observing that police staff shortages seem to be at the root. Too many $100K+ officers off for March break? (Note to criminals.)
Repeat event, not a surprise, new liason officer this year. All smiles during planning. Staff donβt pass along to council for weeks and create a calamity.
Iβve been following and it sounds like police then staff failed to solve their own problems and have sprayed it all over council, the race organizer and essentially citizens. Is it safe to organize an event in #Ptbo? Is there a social contract you can trust with CoP?
Seems like the most important post in the world right now.
"Cars are the most absurd means of transport in a city. They are parked 95 per cent of the time. It takes two tonnes to move someone who weighs 70 kilogrammes. And the denser the city, the more absurd it is."
Here's hoping this statement is no longer true once they're minted.
Important for #Ptbo locals interested in #Alto. This is what a high speed train passing is like. No level crossings⦠capiche?
- Summons - by Aurora Levins Morales Last night I dreamed ten thousand grandmothers from the twelve hundred corners of the earth walked out into the gap one breath deep between the bullet and the flesh between the bomb and the family. They told me we cannot wait for governments. There are no peacekeepers boarding planes. There are no leaders who dare to say every life is precious, so it will have to be us. They said we will cup our hands around each heart. We will sing the earthβs song, the song of water, a song so beautiful that vengeance will turn to weeping, the mourners will embrace, and grief replace every impulse toward harm. Ten thousand is not enough, they said, so, we have sent this dream, like a flock of doves into the sleep of the world. Wake up. Put on your shoes. You who are reading this, I am bringing bandages and a bag of scented guavas from my trees. I think I remember the tune. Meet me at the corner. Letβs go.

Metrolinxβs reflexive secrecy will lead directly in this case to making life worse for transit riders
Text explaining how there isnβt a war on cars, with all the benefits of reallocating street space to move a lot more people with a lot less space and other consequences, including life and death, pollution/emissions, public and personal costs, etc. Providing more choices works better for everyone, including drivers. And more transportation choices support the economic competitiveness of cities, as smart cities know.
Iβm not a fan of politicians trying to make people angry for votes by claiming there actually IS a βwar on carsβ (there isnβt β if anything thereβs been a war on every OTHER way of getting around since the 1960s).
A politician just made the claim on LinkedIn. Hereβs the reply I posted. #UrbanTruth
ββ¦persons living in walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods have higher levels of social capital compared with those living in car-oriented suburbs. Respondents living in walkable neighborhoods were more likely to know their neighbors, participate politically, trust others, and be socially engaged.β
This is happening bigly among the @forourgrandkids.bsky.social group here in Ptbo.
βIt is time for judges to remind [various and several Trump administration officials] that when courts issue decisions, they are obligated to obey by holding those officials in contempt and fining or sentencing them to jail accordingly.β
Geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East once again shows that reliance on volatile oil and gas exposes economies to price shocks.
Renewables, electrification and storage offer more stable long term energy costs and stronger energy security.
Did you make it to Avi?
- second bus was advertised as 6:01-6:10. As mentioned I got on at 6:00 (1β early). The bus, 6? stops later, arrived at 6:04. It flew and accelerated to βmakeβ lights. If you were aiming for one stops, sorry your bus was early - no connection for you. Bad transit.
Okβ¦ so two basically successful #Ptbo transit trips. Butβ¦
- Both busses were 1 minute early to the stop. (If you canβt be frequent be punctual/dependable) within tolerance.
- First stop was 60m from stated intersection (at an other namable intersection). Got lucky finding it.

Someone get Jay to the Avi this evening!
Jay! I didnβt know about the injury. I hope itβs healing well.
We tried transit in early Feb and it was a success though we almost made it into a mess because of the anxiety and distrust (and non-users) we brought to it.
May try it again this evening to get to PRHC without a car then downtown.
An article about transit station placement. #Ptbo #Alto

We here in #Ptbo have largely avoided harmful urban highways. Consultants visit and congratulate City Hall when it was citizen resistance that prevailed. There are still many here who hold to outdated ideas.
