Did you have a dream last night that you can't recall? Perhaps you didn't dream anything at all! Happy to finally see this out (after what feels as a lifetime) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Our last article is finally published! π¬π§ We found that unusual bodily experiences (including out-of-body experiences) can be facilitated in a laboratory setting, and they seem to appear during mixed wake-sleep states. Read the full article here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Have you ever heard about the βHat Manβ? Many people who experience sleep paralysis report seeing him: a dark, shadowy figure with a big hat, silently watching from the corner of the room. I was briefly mentioned in a Daily Mail article about this phenomenon: www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/...
Thanks!!
Some fresh news!! Yesterday I defended my PhD thesis on "Electrophysiology and neurophenomenology of intermediate states of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep"π₯³ Hereβs a pic of a short text I shared on LinkedIn:
Can you be aware of nothing while you are asleep? I wrote a new piece on dreamless sleep experiences for @theconversation.com
theconversation.com/can-you-be-a.... I also talk about some of the exciting findings from @tecferrer.bsky.social's research.

Happy to have collaborated with Paula Γbalos on this amazing project combining art and science! Here are some glimpses from the APARICIONES installation at ZiMMT (Leipzig), which brings wake-sleep intermediate states of consciousness to life (πΈ Photos by Nicolas Rupcich)
Interested in dream hacking and altered states of consciousness? You can now read two short texts @adrianaalsa.bsky.social and I wrote for the audiovisual installation APARICIONES, exploring these themes! To find them, explore the interactive archive at: apariciones.net
It was so refreshing to collaborate in this artistic project on liminal states of consciousness by Paula Γbalos (installation in Leipzig, Germany). I contributed a written piece on 'Dream hacking', which you need to find by interacting with the website :)

Happy to announce APARICIONES! β an audiovisual installation atπZiMMT in Leipzig ποΈ 4β20 July 2025, by artist Paula Γbalos (πΈIG: @paula.abalos), based on our 3-year collaboration exploring wake-sleep transitional states of consciousness.

Great question! Nearly 70% of UBEs were identified as "lucid dreams" in the study, yet few of them were reported in a dream environment. So, heightened awareness seems common during UBEsβenabling the signalingβbut this doesn't necessarily mean they qualify as lucid dreams in the classical sense.

Excited to share the final chapter of my PhD now out as a preprint! π We explored unusual bodily experiences (including sleep paralysis and out-of-body experiences) using high-density EEG and in-depth interviews. π§ π΄

π’ New preprint from the lab:
We are very excited to report the discovery of an oscillation in the Central Thalamus using rare direct recordings of human thalamic electrophysiology.
The novel oscillation is tightly coupled to specific, natural states of consciousness.π§΅
Our new review on the clinical neuroscience of lucid dreaming is out! π We discuss its potential for treating nightmares and mental health, with some insights into its connection to Yoga Nidra: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Do you want to know more about "lucid sleep" and how can this state be induced and examined using neurophenomenologically-inspired research methods? Then check this out!

Thank you for being such an incredible collaborator and for all your valuable input π It was a pleasure working together on this!
A new article has been published on #PhiMiSci as part of our special issue on dreaming and mind wandering: βExploring βlucid sleepβ and altered states of consciousness using meditation and visual stimulation: A case series studyβ by T. Campillo-Ferrer, A. Alcaraz-SΓ‘nchez and S. G. Torres-Platas.
π₯³ Exciting news! Our paper on 'lucid sleep' is finally published! Dive into the EEG and phenomenology of five episodes including lucid dreamless sleep, lucid dreaming, and out-of-body-like experiences π«π§ π€.
