I think far too many people thought we were being hyperbolic, saying everyone from Bush to Cheney to Rice needed to be tried at the Hague.

Some people are responding to this saying this doesn't extend to the more horrific things a child might experience, but I think that's incorrect and misguided. Yes, how you depict it and talk about it matters deeply, but things like abuse, neglect, self-harm, can all absolutely be tackled in kidlit.
