Hello from Sweden πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ

I am here this week giving lectures and learning about an educational system in a country with a social safety net.

For starters, undergraduate education is free and doctoral students are treated as employees, including paid medical and parental leave.

DHS admits it deported more than 80 DACA recipients β€œDreamers” who came to the U.S. as children are protected under U.S. law, so deportations of them are unusual.

They’re still doing this.

I just started this book, and have found more truth about caregiving in the first 20 pages than in anything else I’ve read over the last 10 years.

Scholars -- a friend was invited to be a reviewer for the NEH fellowship pgm. The invite says this yr "will focus on projects in American history and culture and Western civilization." Are people doing this or protesting or what? Do we have a collective plan?

AOC: The Pentagon has not passed an audit, and they are out here trying to kick people with disabilities off of Medicaid. It is corruption that is stealing from the public coffers β€” and that is the actual waste, fraud, and abuse.

What’s Driving the Spike in College Students with Disabilities

Just once, I’d like to see the NYT actually talk to disability studies scholars about disability before they write articles laden with the most ableist tropes that totally go unchecked. A real disservice. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/02/u...

What We Owe to Caregivers (SSIR) Laura Mauldin's In Sickness and in Health examines the plight of family caregivers and the ableism that causes them to suffer their burden alone.

It cannot be stressed enough how these Republicans don’t see government jobs as jobs at all. They see them as titles, no-show gigs where they can do whatever they want. That’s why οΏΌthey hated the people in those jobs before, they thought it was a scam because they don’t believe in doing the work.

They are all failed celebrities who think the job is being a celebrity, exemplified by kash patel who thinks his job is having government jets fly him and his girlfriend from one event to another bsky.app/profile/jkar...

As my partner puts it, AI is a technology that is reproducing the pre-existing knowledge economy, while also pulling the rug out from under that knowledge economy by changing how labor is understood as well as the exchange value of labor in the workplace, in academia as well as more broadly.

ICE Took Wael Tarabishi's Full Time Caregiver Away... and it Killed Him Wael Tarabishi was a 30 year old disabled man who's father Maher was his full time caregiver. ICE took Maher in October, leaving Wael without support. He died three months later.

On this Disability Day of Mourning, let’s honor Wael Tarabishi, a disabled man who died when ICE took his caregiver away.

Wael told them he would die without his father who was his β€œarms, legs & lungs”.

ICE took him anyways.

Wael died 3 months later:

if the media had any integrity β€” and it doesn’t anymore β€” they’d be pointing out on a loop that Obama made a deal with Iran, Trump cancelled it because Obama is Black, and then Trump started a war on the pretense there is no deal

I know this feels pointless but everyone has to call their congressional reps and say they oppose war with Iran and they oppose Trump illegally starting one without congressional approval β€” both

The reality here is that universities would love to hire visible and capable conservative scholars. That they have to create separate centers, and then hire people who would never make it in an open search, underlines the fact that its not anti-conservative bias, its a lack of strong candidates.
