The picture that's based on the mock-up I posted earlier is kicking my ass, so I'm taking a break from it and then I'll tackle it with a different approach.

Wonderful picture. Love the colors and all the texturing in the characters.

Since I've decided that the best way to get a consistent 'shine' is to shade all pictures in one fell swoop, I'll be sharing flats for a while.

The picture depicts a work in progress drawing for The Golden Glow furry visual novel. It depicts a classroom, where a gray wolf is framed at the center. In the background, there are several other students at their desks; some are writing, others are looking out the window, or sleeping.

Locked in most of the art needed for the re-release, so it's time to draw.

A little update on the behind the scenes for my VN.

TL;DR, new name, development hell is over, and things are now progressing smoothly. Hoping for the relaunch to be in late October.

You can see the bones of this style when I was working on the Jam version earlier this year. Back then I had less than week to finish the art for what is almost 4x the script size I've scoped to myself for the re-launch, so I had to get ultra scrappy.

Can't wait to start the polish step.

A little more of how I'm re-working my VN presentation.

After I block the shots, I add the key background lines, sketch the objects and characters' expressions/pose changes, then "animate" it in code.

After that, I'll add the text between the motions and then polish.

The best/worst decision I've made is 3D blocking the shots with Alex's sample for scale.

On one hand, it has big 'Facade' energy, on the other, it's a cursed backrooms scare when I turn and he's just standing there, menacingly.

Bonus sketchy layers to block out 'motion' in the code.

Making a VN is finding out you put all of your points into Stealth Archer before being locked into an unskippable gauntlet with a single mace.

I should have multiclassed into character-background.

Wow, two posts in a week? Look at me go!

Between doing an Editing pass on a friend's VN, work deadlines, reviewing and re-editing some of TOG, I'm still exercising my shapes and preparing model sheets for the characters.

Alex's getting a new coat, but I'm still trying out colors and patterns.

And here's the head-shot lineup.

Pretty satisfied with the designs; Oliver and Kevin changed the most to look like their species more, Elliot and Alex got just a small cleanup.

Now to work on all of the different angles to have proper reference material for the future.

Long time no see.

Been trying to make character designs with set structures to get more consistent results, which is a big issue for me. Blame my programmer brain.

I'm also trying to find the important lines and silhouettes for the characters.

One thing that helps/I do is participate in a few discords about things that interest me, and participate in conversations if either I'm in the mood, or there's a topic I can contribute/have a joke to.

It may not be a structured or planned social interaction, but it helps to get that social energy.

Getting some new appreciation for folks that draw cars.

One of the updated illustrations in my VN. I'm still scared of backgrounds, but this gives me confidence.

Also, these have different 'frames' in them with other expressions and poses to get more out of the BGs.

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.

Life ✨ happened, but I'm back to drawing, and I even got a new tablet with a display. I'm getting the hang of it, it's quite nice.
