A chart showing that capacity delays are the most common reason for delayed discharge. The chart shows five categories: hospital process, wellbeing concerns, care transfer hub process, interface process, capacity. The graph refers to the number of people per day with a length of stay of 14 days or over who no longer meet the criteria to reside but were not discharged, broken down by the reasons they continued to reside (March 2025). The data is from the acute discharge situation report March 2025.
Capacity delays are often cited as the most common reason for delayed discharge from hospital. But what does that actually mean?
βͺ@blimeysimon.bsky.socialβ¬ and @sarah-arnold.bsky.socialβ¬ explore what the current data on delayed discharge can and can't tell us: buff.ly/XgcMOZb
