Two flamingos in a pond at the botanical gardens in Madeira. One is down in the water with its neck and head all folded in, sleeping perhaps. The other is in the middle of a wash and brush up. It’s upright with wings outstretched as it flaps off water droplets following a dip in the pond to rinse itself off.

A wonderfully decorated Super Lambanana in the Tate Liverpool. It’s covered in mosaic, mainly shades of blue stripes, but the head and are multi coloured and there are patterns of colour on its back. The original Super Lambanana was designed by the artist Taro Chiezo and intended to be a cross between a banana and a lamb. Then as part of Liverpool's year-long position as the 2008 European Capital of Culture, 125 replicas of the sculpture were created. I’m not sure if this was one of them or more have been created since.

Looking along an undercover walkway that goes around one of the docks in Liverpool. On the waterside (the left) there are red columns that support the upper level and have suspended chains between them to keep people safe. Along the walkway a short distance is a sign for the Tate, this is in red and white. There is, as mentioned, water to the left surrounded by dockland buildings other than one entrance for boats. This is across the water from me.

Night in Venice looking along a canal with buildings towering either side. Old buildings with arches, mullioned windows, balconies and the like. As the canal goes away from us its course goes off to the left and out of sight, we see just the front of a moored boat patiently waiting for its owner to return in the morning. All the buildings reflect in the still water.

We are looking down the Stilluptal Valley in the Zillertal Alps. There is a triangle of sky in the top centre with mountains either side. These come down until they meet with the valley bottom in which there is a stream. The stream flows in on the bottom left corner and curves up and round until it disappears between the mountains. All is verdant and green other than either side of the stream which is rocky.

The blue hour has fallen over Derwentwater in the Lake District. My camera is on a tripod low on a rocky foreshore looking over the water to the distant bank and hills beyond. The rocks, looming darkly, are in the bottom right corner. A number of lights shine on far shore and reflect down and towards me in the water. Above is a sky full of plump satisfying clouds.

On the right are the trunks of five slender silver birch trees. All are upright except the middle one that leans into the frame. Beyond them, central in the image is a lone blossom tree glowing slightly in the mist and half light. The image contains muted oranges, yellows, reds and greens as the trees and shrubs are heavy with buds waiting to burst forth as spring progresses.

A stitched panorama taken at dawn on the side of Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District. We are looking at, and over, one of the so called plug holes, they are overflows for the reservoir, to Derwent Edge beyond. The plug hole is round and stepped. The reservoir was high so water pouring over it. It’s silky in appearance as it’s a long exposure. There is cloud and colour in the sky sitting over Derwent Edge.

A tiny bluetit makes its way into the birdbath, you can see how alert it is always looking for danger so it can take flight. Ripples are spreading across the water surface as it steps in. The backdrop is defused foliage as I used a shallow depth of field to isolate the subject.
