Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000โyearโold currency
The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.
This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A chalk white horse figure on a hillside.
This is Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire.
Best estimates suggest it was created some time between 1380 BC and 550 BC, making it by far Britain's oldest white horse figure.
It's inspired 16 'copies' across the country - is there a white horse near you?

A round stone plaque engraved with a sun motif.
How did prehistoric people respond to natural disasters? Some of 2025's most-read research suggested a volcanic eruption that blocked out the sun caused people in Neolithic Denmark to ritually sacrifice 'sun stones' to ensure a good harvest.

The picture shows a needle made of bone, it resembles its modern descendants with an eye at one end and a tapered end.
Things used in everyday life are the real archaeological treasures!
This sewing needle was made from animal bone some 13,000 years ago.
Some designs simply don't need to be improved, because form and functions were perfectly matched from the start

๐ชจNeolithic small pointed end flint axehead/elongate chisel tool 80mmx51mm. In the style of the Michelsberg Culture most probably used for small scale wood working. The earliest farmers would have been wealthy people, trading their knowledge & tools #FindsFriday #FlintFriday #Archaeology #Wirral

Another piece of history disintegrates. Ethically this is not acceptable.
โThey were bought by the same anonymous collector from the United States.
All the auctioned coins were sold, but Licence and the landowner chose to keep a single stater each.โ

Ancient DNA Reveals Europeโs Last Hunter-Gatherers Survived Thousands of Years Longer Than Expected
Ancient DNA shows that hunter-gatherers in northwestern Europe endured for millennia, with women driving a gradual cultural shift toward farming.
The findings that come from an DNA studies fascinate me. The fact that DNA can even be extracted from ancient bones (and sometimes teeth) is amazing.

Rรคtselhafte Wรผstendrachen: รberleben in der Jungsteinzeit

Archaeological finds push Castlegate scheme ยฃ8m over budget
Council is bidding for more funds to complete the public park and events space in Sheffield city centre.
Terribly misleading headline. I suspect the cost is more to do with "Technical challenges in uncovering the River Sheaf have been the other main reason for the programme extensions and cost increases"
