There may be issues I couldn't predict on the release, I've already had a friend have an issue where they needed to run the game a couple times because the UID's didn't load properly but it worked after a few retries and I assume it's related to Dialogic so just be wary of that.

The music is taken from public sources and is credited on the page and the game itself.

Most of the visuals and sound effects were handled by me aside from the background, main tileset and font (which is also sourced)

So I worked the last couple weeks on making a Platform Story Framework with the express for people to mess around with.

also i don't know if I entirely agree with mario 1 supposed to be a speed game, I actually made it to world 8 as a kid without realising the B button made you run lmao

In Mario's case the fireballs and bullet bills are meant to act as a punishment if you're acting wreck-less (tho not impossible), while rewarding more cautious gameplay, it's supposed to slow you down and make you think.

That's why I say the extended camera diminishes the design intentions there.

it's not really suffering from the changes (tho I think there's something to be said about the player being tiny and taking up less of the screen)

It's more that these quality of life changes getting applied can ignore how a lot of these games were meant to be experienced

I make it a goal to scream at that hole everyday so it knows I think it's a nerd and that I'm going to make my friends day better

I feel like this does extend to the sonic games too BUT the game's whole premise is designed around going fast and it's a genuine flaw that you don't get enough space to see what's coming up where a small change like that does improve the general experience.

I can't justify that with Mario.

I feel like for me to really work into what I'm talking about I'd have to go full on Ship of Theseus about it.

You're free to enjoy the game however you like in whatever way you like but I'm more talking on a more deeper level about how the game was designed to be played the way it was made

also sorry for double responding but mario deluxe doesn't have back scrolling, it only scrolls back a little bit to make up for the screen crunch before the original barrier kicks in

I'm trying to think of what situation in mario one would benefit from more reaction time.

The only instances I can think of is the bowser fire and bullet bill patterns but those were intentionally designed to make you slow down instead of rushing forward, it's why when they do appear they're slow.
