We make advocacy fun and easy. Anyone can send a quick message to #A2Council through our email campaign, even if you can't make a comment on Monday night. It only takes a couple of minutes.

When Trump’s HUD tried to cut a crucial tenant protection, NHLP and the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia took them to court. Now we’re celebrating our first victory in this fight: HUD's rushed rule has been delayed and opened to public comment!

What are Bulk Controls? How do they affect Minnesota Zoning? β€” Neighbors For More Neighbors Zoning codes are often discussed in terms of what types of housing or businesses are allowed in a neighborhood: Can a lot be used for a single-family home, a retail store, or an apartment building?…

Minimum lot size, floor area ratio, setbacks, bulk controls... There are a lot of confusing phrases used when digging into why and how we can build homes in our cities.

But don't fear! Our recent blog answers what bulk controls are and how they affect housing: www.moreneighbors.org/news-stories...

There isn't just one solution to #A2Council housing crisis. Ann Arborites struggling to stay here need protection. And we need more options for people of all incomes; a housing shortage means that the wealthy will take what they can get and the poor will be displaced. "Protection and production."

From a NYTimes interview with Zohran Mamdani in June 2025:

What’s one issue in politics that you’ve changed your mind about?
The role of the private market in housing construction.

How so?
I clearly recognize now that there is a very important role to be played, and one that city government must facilitate through the increasing of density around mass transit hubs, the ending of the requirement to build parking lots, as well as the need to up-zone neighborhoods that have historically not contributed to affordable housing production β€” namely, wealthier neighborhoods.

I think all these things, in tandem with a muscular role for the public sector. But that is a changing opinion over time that I’ve been in office.

The left’s housing civil war is ending For a decade, progressives argued over whether greedy landlords or blocked construction caused the housing crisis. Zohran Mamdani and Nithya Raman say the answer is both.

Will #A2Council candidates take a "Yes, and" approach? 🧡

DSA LA mayor candidate: "My philosophy is you need protection and production in order for cities to thrive."

On a "progressivism that blends robust tenant protections with unleashed housing production."

Our current building codes aren't working well. Single stair reform would allow safe, more affordable, better ventilated small and mid-rise buildings in the places where they fit.

Quote from Governor Gretchen Whitmer's 2026 State of the State address: "Our laws have made it easy to expand suburbs but hard to build walkable downtowns and main streets or do more with your own property. It shouldn't be so hard to build the homes people need in the places where they want to live."

Gretchen Whitmer is on point: We need more homes and allowing more choices and more building will help get us there.

If your ticked off about corporate homeownership, wait til I tell you about the impact of restrictive zoning and building codes on reducing housing supply and driving up costs in a manner than makes housing a lucrative investment.

A new condo building in Honolulu has 310 income-restricted homes. These don't merely benefit the residents in the new units; through vacancy chains, those residents free up their previous homes for other poor people to live in.

This vacancy chain mechanism also works for the 202 market-rate homes.

Today’s Planning Commission vote is a major milestone for our city and for the residents who have long advocated for more affordable housing and smarter growth. This land use plan will help create walkable neighborhoods, expand housing options, and strengthen our local economy.

More Neighbors A2 has worked alongside community members and city leaders to advance these policies, and we’re grateful to the Planning Commission for listening to residents. We look forward to supporting strong implementation so this vision becomes reality.

Tonight at 5:30, Planning will hear A LOT of comments, many with erroneous talking points.

What will matter more is new commenters sharing their stories and priorities.

Tell them why we need neighborhoods with more housing options and mixed uses.

We can help you - just ask.
