4/ Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.
But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?
They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.
Dave's story on the new @comiclab.bsky.social of being banned from Amazon without ever talking to a human is a perfect example of why it's so, so dangerous for writers to rely solely on Amazon publishing for their income. They can cut off that income anytime and there's literally nothing you can do.
Few things are as satisfying as walking into a room and having a baby hold out their arms for you to pick them up.
Behold: the child has chosen!
Lots (and I mean LOTS) of professional writers have restrictions that keep them from attending cons. Day jobs. Kids and other dependents. Finances. You are not the only one.
All that really matters, career-wise, is writing and getting that writing in front of readers.
Con life is its own thing separate from writing. It's a chance to connect with other writers who share your passions and struggles, to learn and build networks of support! But it can also be an expensive hobby that distracts you from actually writing. You do not *need* those connections to publish.
Writer Internet is full of pics of writers partying together at conventions, making it easy to feel like that's what you need to do to succeed, but it's actually totally unnecessary. (Fun! But unnecessary.)
The only thing you *need* to do to write professionally is write and submit your work.

Rolling up in the club with a baggie full of pills and they're all digestive aids because I'm over 40 and onions hurt my tum-tum.
Huh... yeah, a brief google suggests that they changed the character for the film and a bunch of folks are mad about it. (For good reasonβhe's the best character in the books!)
...that's enough internet for today. Thank you to all the actual grownups out there doing the real labor of caring for people and trying to repair the damage these stunted men create.
Please, for the love of god, do not reproduce with men who think like Scott Galloway. If someone can't be an equal partnerβemotionally and logisticallyβin caring for their own children, find someone better. Society doesn't need any more boys growing up with their genes or opinions, thanks.
I haven't seen the show, but in the books, the blue-collar Eastern European immigrant is the most lovable character, and they all adore him...?
Under a new policy released Thursday, the Trump Administration will test conversion therapy on trans people in prisons. It explicitly states that it aims to help trans people βrecover,β all the while forcibly detransitioning them both medically and socially.

It's easy to feel like art doesn't matter. But I've been thinking about the songs we played for my mom while she was dying. The shows that got me through years of pandemic quarantine. The audiobooks and podcasts that are the only media my disabled wife can still enjoy. Somebody created those things.
Thank you, Sherry! <3
A book or song or film doesn't have to be incredible to be important to someone, in the same way a house doesn't have to be a palace to be a home. It's about the role it plays in somebody's life. I can love a mediocre song. I can love a house that leaks. They're both part of my story.
Willie Nelson didn't know his song would be playing when my mom died. In fact, writing and recording that song might have been a slogβsomething he slapped together to pay the bills. It doesn't *matter*. Good or bad, art is part of the structure of our lives. We need it. We *inhabit* it.

The GOP is running on pure evil.
Seeing this tweet out of context on my timeline, it took my brain way too long to parse whether these were all plants or bands or superheroes...
I love that!
Exactly! I do the same. It's also really helpful to do my list on something small, so when the items start to stack up, I can recognize that everything probably isn't going to get done today.
(I also like to have one list for the day and a separate list for "sometime this week"βlike stretch goals.)
I just sent out my extremely infrequent email newsletter, in which I let folks know about my latest projects and upcoming events, and this one came with *free stickers*. If you don't want to miss out next time, sign up here! eepurl.com/gpPbxX
It's the time of year when it can seem like everybody's to-do list is full of aspirational goals. That's great if you feel like you have capacity, but it's also totally okay if your new year's resolution is "fucking survive." You don't always need to be adding more. Line doesn't have to go up.
Hey, if you're struggling, try making sure your to-do list reflects all the things you're already doing.
Took a shower? Check.
Fed yourself? Check.
Went to work? Dang, go you! Check that shit off!
Life is hard when the world sucks and your brain is working against you. Give yourself credit.
