Excellent point. Habits can be bad but they are not "addiction". And, if instead of pathologising, we think in these terms, we can create better habits for our social media usage.

Also I love to see more cross protocol work happening. Rising tides can lift all boats.
Folks who want to have protocol wars can wade in and try to hold back the ocean.
Nepal's Gen Z used TikTok, Discord & Reddit to flip their country’s political system, as rapper-turned-politician Balen Shah crushed the 6-time incumbent in last week's election. Aaradhyaa Gyawali offers an account of how events played out, and what it says about the role of technology in elections.
Heeey, look, it's me!
I'm super hyped to announce that @bsky.app have given me a grant to work on the standards for the Federated Credential Management API (or FedCM) to make them really work for all decentralized web applications.
I know what you mean, Academia can stifle that love for writing a bit... Looking forward to reading more! "reviving my blog" is also on my post-PhD list, although I hate having to self-promo... Better get used to it by sharing my old posts 😁🫣 nathalievanraemdonck.com
Great research project to participate in and have your voice be heard on safety and tackling harm in decentralized system, warmly recommend people to sign up!

"our engagement with war content is never just consumption: there is always space to question what we are being shown."
Scrolling and interacting with war content is inherently a political act as it shapes the visibility of such content
Yayy for blogging 🥳 great piece Esteban!
The eu haul migration tool destination selection screen. It lists blacksky and Bluesky as defaults
BTW: EU-Haul is not restricted to migrating your account to @eurosky.social - you can use it to migrate FROM any hoster TO any hoster. E.g. to @blackskyweb.xyz or even back to @bsky.app

Reading this, again, you get the sense that someone at Anthropic knows how the intel community misleads by using definitions of words that are different than everyone else believes. And the people at OpenAI simply don't know or don't care about that.
I'm glad some Spanish journalists can see through this weaponization of a quirky subculture. As I'm integrating more in Spain, it's been interesting to see how the outrage over Therians was mostly confined to the hispanic ecosystem? Not sure how accurate this map is but symbolic nonetheless 🙈
I'm doing good, thanks Esteban :) I'm unfortunately not in any conferences either this year since I don't have any new data 🥹 was finishing my thesis, then an unrelated consultancy project to survive this following year financially in Spain, but will hopefully be more academically active soon!
Estos dos artículos sobre el fenómeno mediático detrás de los therians y el halo reaccionario que les acompaña están muy bien. Da gusto cuando alguien ordena ideas.

The Department of Homeland Security is flooding social media platforms with subpoenas demanding they unmask the people behind anti-ICE accounts.
This crackdown on speech shows EXACTLY why online age verification laws are so dangerous.
Here's why: 🧵
This first academic piece on the "subcultural ironics of a dark corner of the womanosphere" aka The Red Scare podcast sphere is a must-read for people trying to understand the online "dirt bag" left (open Access preprint here www.idilgalip.com/blog/new-pub...)
imo the story is a representative composite and I assume every part of the story was confirmed to likely happen by her expert respondents. But I understand the lack of mention of fictionalization is murky from a deontological perspective, so well done on looking into it with Niemanlab.
I think it's a great approach to make the consequences of an infection more tangible and realistic. Reporting individual stories require empathy from the reader, and many antivaxxers believe in their exceptionalism, finding any kind of fault in the real victims to say "that won't happen to me"
New "verify age group" scam
Per one large server I'm in, there's a new Discord scam to watch out for. Stay alert, and beware of suspicious links

ok this is too much fun hahaha people must've had a field day when it came out (ik zit wel ergens super random maar dat klopt ook wel met mijn online presence)
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail
ja de Nederlandstalige feeds die ik heb gevonden zijn ook voornamelijk populated met Nederlanders :(
heb die netwerkkaart trouwens gemist!
Hmm being on X to whine about X? I would understand they do it because whining about it elsewhere feels like screaming into the void. It's a cynical take that EU politicians may just keep the enemy alive so they HAVE an enemy to make themselves look like they're fighting for something, but I buy it!
