DONโT MENTION THE WAR!
#NigelFawlty
It has always felt like a heat basin. Was planning to swing by on Friday to steal cuttings, actually. Precisely, because it is always slightly ahead.
Yes. For butterflies esp. Mind you LG is so deep in the middle of big buildings (with intense underground bits, I imagine - furnaces, laundries, kitchens, etc) that it is a sort of microclimate, a few degrees higher than the countryside, and probably a couple higher than even London more generally.
โWe can take them at their word.โ
At the most basic level of 'have some self-respect', Conservative MPs should not put forward someone who visibly is not intellectually equipped to be prime minister as their candidate to be prime minister.
You can order Will's book from the Quiet Riot bookstore and help a local bookshop. Highly recommended. xx

You'll get more relevant facts and incisive analysis in this 30 minute episode, than in a whole week of watching the national news. If you prefer your opinions to come from experts, this is the podcast for you.
Hugely enjoyed this by Dr Sam Akbar. A classicist AND a clinical psychologist, she has created a practical map to self discovery that doesn't shoehorn Homer into therapy or therapy into Homer, yet fits perfectly. Because The Odyssey IS above all an inward journey.

I am so excited to announce my book "Who Cares About Wales" will be out this Friday! What is even more exciting is the reviews. When you pour a year of work into 95,000 words you start to question if what you have written is any good. 1/3
The best recording is Joan Sutherland, but such perfection would just demotivate anyone trying to learn it.
So, I suggest Yoncheva - a straight up lyric, for whom this is not entirely natural rep. More instructive to see a smart singer cope with the difficulties.

NEW - I had the absolute privilege of interviewing Britain's leading patriot, Isabel Oakeshott, for the New Yorker in Dubai.

A pair of bumble bees on my roof garden, hungrily buzzing around the hyacinths and crocuses, has made me inordinately happy. This is when food really helps them.
Everything has sprung a tad too early, but (fingers crossed) the cold snap this w/e is not forecast cold enough to kill this head start.
๐ Update on Iran War ๐ฎ๐ท
The most informative pairing on all things Iran is back with what is becoming (sadly) a weekly slot. @snellarthur.bsky.social and Charlie Gammell offer actual insight rather than breathless speculation.

This is basically 98% Camus's essay + a Hades punchline (glad to see they acknowledged it at the end). And, yes, of course I cover it. The essay, rather than the sketch that is.
๐จ๐จBack by popular demand๐จ๐จ - keep an eye on your podcast feeds as I have the great Charlie Gammell back on the pod talking about the latest in Iran. Out in the next few hours...
๐จ๐จIt's out on Thursday!๐จ๐จ
If you're not much of a reader you can get the audiobook. Twelve and a half hours of my uninterrupted voice... ๐ณ

It's not "tanking". It's still 30% higher than before this mess. Just not as bad as yesterday, because he came out today and said it will be over soon.
Brent crude.
LIVE Trump says Iran war will be over 'pretty quickly' but US hasn't 'won enough' yet, as Israel launches strikes on Tehran The US president says he is "more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory", hours after telling CBS News the war is "very complete, pretty much".
Trump at his golf club having selfies taken.
Crude oil graph showing a 30% rise this month.
Soon as this genius thinks he's "won enough", world can go back to trying to recover from this crisis AND the last one, caused by his previous brilliant idea: tariffs.
Meanwhile, he's at his golf club taking selfies and Congress - only body with the power to stop this - continues to enable him.
Fab.
If I get Denque Fever, it will be my first stop.
Nah. People are upset.
I didn't dismiss it. It's just not for me. I think when one's job is to keep up with the real-life bleakness 24/7 that is the news, that is allowed. xx
Subscribed to this. If you like knowing new stuff about things you thought you knew, you could do so too!
(When I say Elsa has nothing to do with the swan, the swan of course IS her cursed brother. She just never rides it or sings to it.)
It is entirely possible that Nilsson used to tell that story in her recitals. She was apparently a very funny raconteuse that loved to tell opera anecdotes and Melchior lived in the US after his retirement and during Nilsson's Met dominance. It is almost impossible they wouldn't have met many times.
I done this. #humblebrag

Cannot be Nilsson. Elsa dies and has nothing to do with the swan. If it ever happened as reported, it was Melchior in a Met 1936 production, as I read it in a chronicle from the era.
Don't agree. TWD at its best was magnificent.
Ha! I never know where you will take me, either!
