There was also more than an hour between the end of the game and the trophy lift, mad
There was also more than an hour between the end of the game and the trophy lift, mad
I'm surprised more hasn't been made of this. The ICC chairman, who is supposed to be neutral, not only stayed with the India team for the trophy lift, he actually lifted the trophy alongside Suryakumar Yadav!
Absolutely insane, I guess we've all become desensitised to this shit.
She's been called up to Australia A, and against India last year she scored 92* (90) out of 214 in a 50 over match, and 72 (125) in a successful chase of 281 in a 4-day match
She's clearly a player on the up and her signing could be a very good bit of business.
7/7
In this season's T20 Spring Challenge, batting at 3 for Sydney Thunder due to the absence of international players, she finished as the competition's third-highest run-scorer, with 159 at an SR of 121, including innings of 52 (44) and 63* (40)
6/7
In this season's WBBL, operating largely from no.6, she scored 125 runs at an average of 25 and SR of 118, with the highlight being 43 off 24 balls as part of a partnership of 107 with Somerset's Heather Knight
5/7
She's not currently having a great 50 over campaign for NSW, it must be said - in eight innings she has one century but her next highest score is 46
She was much better in the 2024/25 WNCL, when she finished as the competition's second-highest run-scorer, with 577 at 48.08.
4/7
...bats at 3 in 50 over cricket for NSW when their Australia players are unavailable. She bats lower for Sydney Thunder as they have lots of international players but I'd expect her to bat at 3 or 4 for us in both formats, effectively as Fran Wilson's replacement.
3/7
She's available for ODC games 2 to 10, and all of the Blast. I assume she'll be unavailable late in the season as New South Wales will want her back for their season but if we're in ODC contention we'll hopefully sign a replacement
She's a top order batter - she usually...

Anika Learoyd is a very solid signing for Somerset, I think. Due to the T20WC there's limited availability for the top players for a decent chunk of the season so we've understandably looked to the second tier of players, and an Australian makes a lot of sense given the strength of their system

The ICC chairman just (kind of) lifted the trophy along with the India captain
I was only watching to see how the ICC fuck up the trophy presentation anyway

Meredith is included too but he isn't signed for the One-Day Cup anyway
Daniel Sams was on the original longlist but somewhat surprisingly isn't in the slimmed down version, opening up the possibility of him playing in the ODC (he played a few ODC games for Notts last year)

Great to see Migael Pretorius back playing top level cricket for the first time since T20 finals day on 13 September
He played for North West in a South African domestic 50 over match on Sunday
Just in time for his return to Somerset

Meredith and Sams have entered too but they aren't signed for the One-Day Cup anyway
Although Sams did become available at the last minute for a few ODC games for Notts last season, and with it immediately following the Blast this year something similar can't be ruled out
4/5
I'd say Abell, Gregory, Kohler-Cadmore, Overton and Smeed are certain to be signed
The Rews haven't got much top level T20 experience but their strong reputations mean one or both being signed wouldn't be a shock
Think it's unlikely any of our other players will be signed

Worth reading this. It exposes the naivety of the idea that the sale of the Hundred teams will "save county cricket".
I see that Will Smeed entered yesterday's PSL auction but was unsold
Riley Meredith was sold, but as the PSL finishes on 3 May and the Blast starts on 22 May it shouldn't affect his Somerset availability

It's England v India in the U19 World Cup final
It starts at 7:30am on Sky Sports Cricket
What a law change that is by the way. Delighted.
