#morbidmarch #day11 #low

Oh Charlie, I've sunk so low.

Charlie stood up on his legs to lean closer for a petting.

Stroking his head,
Shall we make a wish? Wish for it all to be better?

Charlie wagged his tail.

I closed my eyes and dropped a small bone into the depths of the wishing well.

white fluffy cloud, blue skies.

white fluffy cloud, blue skies.

In Polish folklore, the Platenik was the soul of the drowned and was associated with heavy low-hanging clouds. They could shape the clouds from fog above the rivers and move them using ropes. If one visited your house, it had to be greeted as an old friend and asked no questions... #MorbidMarch

#MorbidMarch Slow dragging, strained heaving, blood staining the road in which he walked.
It was an accident, he told himself. A fit of anger had clouded his judgment. He never meant to do it. But now he could not take it back. Now, he had to hide the body.
Never did he think he would stoop so #low.

#MorbidMarch The tale that comes most frequently is the sound of quiet, persistent scratching. Many think that it's rats, but the sound is too even and uniform for that. Some have said that it sounds like nails on wood. It's a barely perceiptible sound, but once you hear it, you can't ignore it.

#MorbidMarch I've been thinking about this for hours and I can't think of anything that's set in ruins that stuck with me.

My little man is no longer here, but the debt still remains, if you could share this post, or donate anything at all I would be forever grateful.

This one guitar chord - a twangy but confident C Major. To some, it seems mournful. To me, it feels sonically overripe, as if someone had left it in a cupboard and it had sprouted, until it had its sprawling roots in every room of the house at 5.02pm. #MorbidMonday

I mean, it's hard to beat the opening of Rebecca.
This Willerby story is a far gentler, more poignant story, though.

I descended the marble staircase one step at a time, just as anyone would. It felt like I'd been walking for hours and hours. Maybe it was only minutes. All I knew is that time disappeared. Sheesh, how low beneath the earth did these stairs go?

This is a Grey Pansy. Look a bit boring from afar, but check out those cartoon eyes.

Liking the subtle fade to black on this one. Slightly bewildering, it's called a Scarlet Mormon.

We in Gaza are still living under annihilation every day; a suffocating siege, skyrocketing prices, and severe shortages of food and water, even during Ramadan. 💔🇵🇸

There's a story in this collection called 'Foreboding' by Kamila Shamsie, and it's about the experiences of a security guard at Kenilworth Castle. The haunting is quite different from what you might expect, but it's very much stayed with me. #MorbidMarch

Cheating a bit by riffing on this answer to today's #MorbidMarch question but I love the story 'They Flee From Me That Sometime Did Me Seek' by Sarah Perry in this collection and it has absolutely stayed with me.

For the OG Kenilworth haunting tale, it's gotta be Radcliffe's Gaston de Blondeville

Most economists agree that by the time you're 50, you should be living in a book-filled cottage at the edge of the forest and solving minor mysteries in your village with the aid of a curious ghost cat.
