Hi there #HorrorWritersChat I'm Samantha, a multi-genre writer whose horror wanders down a lot of different dark alleys. My first thought when you said "action horror media" was Aliens.

The Xenomorph, hands down. My mileage with the Alien movies is better than most. I tend to like the ones that others don't and like less the ones that others enjoy, but the design and world-building around them is glorious.

I think the Scorpion Mother in DEEP DOWN is my version.

Xenomorphs, clearly. The idea that they molt into the most deadly version of their host is awesomely horrifying. Every alien bug since is a riff on Xeno’s anyway, stick to the sickest, slimiest, most perfectest monster!

If I’m still talking about Aliens, Ripley is a kickass woman who saves the cat, the kid, the wounded warrior, the good robot, the world, the universe…by mostly just caring about someone ELSE surviving, even if her life is at stake. She’s scared, but lives are at stake.
