Someone definitely wasnβt required to read Grapes of Wrath in high school.
My maternal grandmother married my grandfather and spent the next 50 years in an unhappy marriage to get off the farm.
Definitely a life that was super fun and easy back in that βgolden ageβ.
Kobayashi Maru that shit. The whole premise is bullshit. Shut the trolley down. No one needs to die.
Increasingly of the opinion that the correct answer to the Trolley Problem is "fuck you, why are you so fixated on finding reasons to justify killing people?"
WASHINGTON'S MILLIONAIRES TAX PASSES 51 - 46!!
After 24hr straight of debate through the night!
My favorite tea shop suffered a break in!
If youβve ever considered trying any of their fantastic teasβnow would be a fantastic time!
Iβm not sure what these words mean, βToo much teaβ ??
Yellow cargo bike with big yellow bucket in back in front of Shell gasoline sign showing gas prices fo 3.48 - 4.49.
Beat rising gas prices with this one weird trick.
Iβve seen some great stuff at lab scale on separating out PFAS from solids at treatment facilities. Lots more options getting developed to close these loops.
There has been a lot of galumphing tabby action today, this does not bode well for a restful evening.
I was living in Canada during this same period and it was a great chance to learn more about how Americans were perceived and share some of the things that even our closest geographic neighbors didnβt necessarily fully have context on.
Sure, but there are a lot of folks seem to not actually care that there are folks for whom DST is not an improvement. Including my own state senator who is the primary sponsor of year round DST legislation in the senate.
People claim itβs morning people who want year round standard time.
But as a non-morning person I actually need daylight in the morning to help wake up.
Itβs challenging that we spend the majority of the year in DSTβyear round sounds terrible.
And yes, I do have a daylight alarm clock already.
Especially since Caravaggioβs version makes Judith so timid in comparison to Gentileschiβs.
The cats regularly hang out on top of the fridge when Iβm cooking to supervise.
I just walked into the kitchen to make my bedtime tea* and found Beatrice sprawled asleep on the fridge.
Ridiculous creature.
*For the last number of months, the very necessary βTummy Sootherβ from @fridaytea.com.
Clearly weβre going to shut down this whole βthief in the nightβ business with Flock.
But about that day or hour no one knowsβ¦
Sadly for all the prognosticators, the end times have been any day now since five minutes after the resurrection based on the variety of timing options suggested over the centuries.
Sigh. So many folks I went to church with growing up talked like they were in a death cult.
And here we are.
I was in Tehran this time last year. I want you to see how beautiful my city is. I want you to see the city the US/Israel is trying to wipe off the face of the earth
A brown tabby cat with white socks and mittens is curled up asleep. Her head is resting on her left front paw, on top of her right back paw, while her right front paw cradles the left side of her furry noggin just below her giant ears.
Look at that impressive nap paw work.
Gonna double down with a reminder that if you post a screenshot of text from an article you should alt text it & link to the fucking article!!!! If you found it on the internet you should share the link!!! Do not force me to Nancy Drew my way back to the source by triangulating fonts w/news outlets.
Topics I have started posts on today and then not finished include soup, subcompact cars, whistles, and Easter candy.
I propose that in october we permanently shift all clocks back by only 30 minutes & then fucking leave them there forever after. And if you think that's somehow more absurd than the DST/SDT dance, please take a deep breath and remember that clock time is fake & was invented for trains. It'll be fine
there's no call to resort to stereotypes
Weird that the folks in our government who like to start these wars always assume weβre going to be βgreeted as liberatorsβ when thatβs pretty much never happened in any of the circumstances where we pull this bullshit.
It would be great if we had a functional congress so folks wouldnβt have to use elections in states they donβt understand local politics in as a proxy for everything systemic weβre not even attempting to solve yet.
Decide which state election you want it to be about, I can think of at least five.
When I was first learning to drive in the 90s, I lived in Oregon. (Which admittedly has a different set of pricing factors that currently make their gas cheaper than Washington.)
I remember gas then around $1.25/gal. Considering inflation, think about how cheap our gas is now 30 years later.
Living in Washington state and Seattle in particular, Iβm blinking a lot at the folks in the rest of the country with βhigher gas pricesβ that are still less than average gas prices here.
(Our normal prices are high due to our regressive tax structure, supply constraints, and environmental policy.)
Waking up with a headache on the first day of Daylight Saving time?
Sounds about right.
